Does anyone know what the error codes ( flashing ) on an ELECTROLUX Z8240 mean.
Mine Flashes RED and BLUE together. Flash , and after the 6th second and flash again.

Tried to clean filters etc, tried to start up again, the motor had a bit of life and stopped again… Flashing RED & BLUE together…

    Help – Anyone?

Have you consulted the “user manual?….tried the contact-number supplied with the device?

If it’s made in China (PRC) Korea Etc. It’s likely to be of the same status as early post-war “made in hong kong” merchandise…..that is, throw away, not designed for repair , even if you can isolate the fault, no parts available.

OTOH, you may get a pleasant surprise and find service is available, or a return to base repair facility exists (usually they dump yours and send a replacement as “repaired”)

DUCK!…..a pink pig just went over. 😈

All components available for this machine. The problem to solve is whether it’s the motor or the electronics controlling it that is the problem.

    Re: ELECTROLUX Z8240 ERROR CODES

    hi penguin,

thanks for the reply. you seem familiar with this machine.

well the story with this machine is that this is the second time it has died, the first time it was under warranty.

as it is no longer under warranty, I took it apart, and the electronics look ok. there are three boards, one combined power supply, logic board, one vacuum sensor board, and another board from which the motor powers up, and which has a black rubber hose which connects to one of the sensors on this board.

There are other rubber hoses which all seem OK, and there doesn’t seem to be any blockages ina any of them.

The boards don’t appear to be faulty as there is no burnt smell coming from them..

What I have noticed is that the Motor housing showed signs of smoke marks on the wall, as if the brushes had been giving the motor a hard time, and the rotor ( the bit of the motor which the brushes rub on – I think that’s what is called ) appears to be a bit darker. Normally I would expect this should look more coppery in appearance.

Do you know ( or anyone else in the forum ) how to diagnose as to whether or not it is the motor or the boards?

Any help would be appreciated… Thanks…

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Re: ELECTROLUX Z8240 ERROR CODES

P45 is far more qualified than I’ll ever be, to advise you about this machine, but to clear a popular misconception……electronics don’t need to burn ,to stop working!….certain components can be “zapped” just by touching the board without being “grounded”

The rotating part of a motor is normally called the armature and the bit (usually at one end) where the brushes (spring-loaded carbon blocks)connect the current, is the commutator….this is segmented and each segment can be seen to connect to part of the windings.

It is normal for the “com” to be a shiny brown colour…a frosty appearance is usually an indication that you have worn/sticking brush problems. Where one or more segments have badly burnt edges, indicates burnt-out armature.

The outer casing of the motor will either contain strong magnets or field-coils
The latter form a circuit with the brushes and armature.

You will need a test-meter to determine if the motor is faulty, though you could possibly make a continuity -tester with a battery and bulb or LED.

My gut-feeling is that this is beyond your level of experience- no doubt P45 will advise tou if he thinks it’s worth mending, if so, try the “find an engineer” feature on this page.
Sorry I can’t be more positive.

    Re: ELECTROLUX Z8240 ERROR CODES

Steve, thanks for the comments and the lesson in motors, much appreiated.

P45 any suggestions, or pointers as what to look for, or should I try powering the motor directly without electronics first, from what I can tell it is a 240V AC motor, controlled by the electronics to make it spin less ( for lower suction ) and faster for ( higher suction )..

    Thanks ,
    Tom
