ParticipantWe have a five year old Zanussi DE6855 and it has decided to stop filling. The machine has been in good working order until recently when we noticed that it was not rinsing well and subsequently leaving deposits on the plates. We live in a half-hard water area and use an electronic filter on all incoming supply so we do not have a problem with limescale.
When the machine is switched on the pump can be heard working but no water is coming into the washing chamber. There are no leaks under the machine.
I have searched all the other related topics on this site but cannot find a solution.
So far, I have checked the incoming cold water supply as far as the inlet valve (IWMS) located at the rear lower left of the machine and found no problems in supply. I have also checked the outlet and again cannot find any blockage.
I currently have the top and rear of the machine off. Is there a test for the incoming supply valves to confirm operation? What should the voltage be across the black and grey leads, when power is supplied? Is there a resistance reading across the terminals?
Are there any other likely areas in the machine that have an influence on incoming water supply? Filters? Anti-flood valves? Pump? What is an IWMS?
Can I get access to a repair flow chart and circuit/wiring diagram? I know Zanussi and the trade seem to treat repairs to white goods as a black art.
I am an electrical engineer so I have my own test meters and equipment. I know about safety hazards and testing machines live. 😯
Lastly, I will be checking my PCB, not that there is a problem, but to check for the blown joint.

PS. Must say this looks like a brilliant site for information. I use a similar one for my cars.

Solenoid coil on inlet valve should read 3.5kOhms approx. If it’s being activated, the problem will lie in the IWMS. Removing left hand side panel will reveal all.
We cannot advise on any form of live testing in this public forum – future seekers of knowledge may well not have your qualifications.

Hello Mr Penguin, thank you so far for your help.
I have stripped out the IWMS, and cleaned out all the clogged debris inside, which seemed to be localised around the lower pipe outlet, except for the small chamber that attaches to the small bypass pipe at the rear of the machine. I will tackle this with a syringe. It all seems to be remarkably clean and free from deposits.
Is there a sand filter built into the unit as there seems to be a lot of fine sand in a central chamber in the middle of the unit? Its the unit that has the bonded blanking plug in it.
However, I have found a lot of food debris in the sump chamber at the bottom of the pump and looks to be also in the trap lower down and in the hockey stick pipe. How do I remove these parts for cleaning? Is it from below? I am thinking that these are the cause of my problems.
Are the solenoids mounted on the IWMS removable, as they look to be bonded in?
Will I need a service kit for the machine as I am taking it apart?
Your help or anybody elses comments would be much appreciated as I am getting earache off SWMBO.
