Hi I have the simptoms as per the title. The bearings are free in the motor and it will spin freely but when turned on it only hums! I can start it by flicking it round but when turning off and back on again it just hums.

I see that this motor a sole 21673053 has a centre tapping to the windings (which aren’t discoloured) and runs with a capacitor could it be that this is an exciter circuit and I just need to buy a new capacitor

    any help greatfully accepted.

Capacitor needs replacing. Make a note of the uF rating and have a look HERE for a suitable replacement.

UKWhitegoods does not condone live testing in any form. Future readers are advised that it’s bl@@dy dangerous. The motor humming should be sufficient clue that the motor requires a start/run capacitor.
