Seems to go on for ever in what i assume is the drain cycle. Water has all gone but the pump sounds as if it’s still trying to get water out. All the pipes in the house start reverberating. Pressing start/stop button has no effect, light goes out but noise continues. Turning it off at mains has no effect as dishwasher carries on where it left off when you switch power back on.

Have checked filters, all ok. What could be the problem … and do i need to buy a new one? This one was left here by previous owners of house so we don’t know how old it is.

Probably water in the tray under the machine – flood protection switch turns on the pump and over-rides any programme. Unplug the machine, towels down and lean it back to a good angle. If water runs out from the undertray, the machine has leaked.

Commonest cause seems to be the circulation motor seals. A replacement motor is between £80 and £100; a lot to spend on a budget appliance.

That sounds very likely – it did leak once or twice before it developed these extra symptoms! Thank you.
