Hi, I am in need of some advice. I have a Diplomat washer dryer (I think it is an 8702) in a tenanted flat and the tenant has reported a problem with the washer. I have had a look and can’t see anything obvious. The problem is that when spinning the machine makes a banging noise. I popped the top and back off, bearings feel OK, no grinding or excessive play. Nothing obviously loose or broken but the tub assembly does appear to move around quite a lot and the lower concrete block thumps into the case. Is it possible to tension the tub mounts or is there something I should look for or am I just barking up the wrong tree.

    Thanks in advance
    Alan

It is possible, by pulling the drum forward, for the concrete block to contact the casing. Being tennanted, I’d start by ensuring that the filter and sink coupling are clear – no tennant has ever emptied the filter in my experience. Failing that, if you are sure that the bearings are intact, you may be looking at a drum support failure. This is a four legged support bolted to the back of the drum. Bring each drum paddle to the six o’clock position in turn, then try and pull the drum towards you. There should be no movement, relative to the edge of the door seal. If there is, the relevant leg is broken and the support will need to be replaced. Quite a job on one of these.

It’s also possible that one of the suspension dampers under the drum has failed, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that particular problem.

Thanks for the advice. Couple of other things. The washer is just a push fit in the space, as it is integrated, should it be fastened in, or is this correct. It is just it felt a bit front heavy and inclined to tip forward with very little effort. Didn’t know if this was contributing to the problem. Also, the drain hose is connected to the trap under the sink and not a separate stand pipe. It is well routed and at it’s highest point it is touching the underside of the work top so there should be no risk of siphoning. The only thing is it is just a push fit on the spigot and not particularly tight. Should it be fastened on with a jubilee clip or something? Don’t like the idea of it coming off and flooding the flat.

Re the suspension dampers, from what I could see, there are two springs at the top suspending the tub, one either side. At the bottom, I couldn’t see very clearly, but it looked like two more springs shrouded in some kind of casing. Are these the dampers? How do I check them, would a broken one be obvious?

my first question would be do you have a wooden floor, these machine love bouncy wooded floors .
Then i would double check machine is balanced and all locking nuts on feet are done up and also screw the feet all the way up if its vibrating alot but will make door out of line with rest of units unless u put a work surface or somthing under it.
allso a uneven load or unbalanced machine will cause concret to hit front of machine during the first slow down from very first short spin.
if none of this helps i would go for 2 new suspension legs
