Bosch Excel Washing machine WFO2864GB/01 FD 8212 700414
This machine has developed a strange problem.
The programs go through to the point at which spin occurs, and then the timer timer just jumps from say 11 min straight to 1min, and then finishes without attempting to spin at all. If I select rinse, I can see the drum fill up, and then drain, and the drum turns slowly back and forth so the motor still seems to be working. Just no spin.

I’m trying further tests. I ran a couple of rinse cycles wth an empty machine, and these seem to go through ok, but the timer jumps from about 10/11 minutes to 1, and then 0 after a fill/empty cycle.
If I try a spin, the timer shows 11 minutes, and the machine does a couple of slow rotations in each direction, sometimes seem to start spinning up but then stops, the timer display goes completely black, and then goes back to 11 minutes, and the progam reruns, the timer jumps from 11 to 1min left, then 0 and stops.

Check the brushes in the drive motor.

I checked chose, they had about 1″ remaining.
While I was checking over the motor I seem to have found the problem. The ground strap crimp terminal had fractured so the ground wire was not connected to the motor body. When I put a new spade connector onto the earth wire and connected it to the motor, everything seems fine. I’ve tried several washes and so far ok.
I’m a little surprised this lack of grounding caused the problem, but it seems ok now.
