I’ve got a Hotpoint Aquarius TDL 31 dryer with a broken belt. (Took the top off, span the drum and saw the thing slide off into the depths)

I’ve ordered a new belt–at £7 it won’t hurt if it turns out to be too hard to fit.

So. Is it hard to fit? I haven’t started to dismantle it yet, but from the top it looks like it’s mechanically quite simple. My main concern is how to get the belt over the shaft–I assume it has a bearing at front and back.

By the nature of the design, belt replacement on most modern tumble dryers is difficult. With few exceptions the belt has to go around the drum, this requires you to split the cabinet in some way, left hand side off in this case.

The really hard part is getting the belt back onto the motor pulley. again most of the budget to middle end of the market now use stretchy belts. These are very tight indeed and we have a special tool for refitting this belt. Some engineers use various sockets and bars to lever the belt onto the motor pulley.

Remove the mains plug, watch the razor sharp edges, have fun. 🙂

    Jim.
