ParticipantDIPLOMAT ADP5330
Serial No. 3P0094A01671Strange problem. Wonder if anyone has seen it before.
Have the above oven.
On the Fan Assisted Oven setting the oven gets to about 180C and then cuts off. Won’t heat any further.
On the Conventional Oven it does the same but around 200C
On the Hot Air cooking section it doesn’t have a problem or cut off.
Does this oven have 2 elements? Does this suggest that one of them is a goner?
Any suggestions on how to tell which one it is?
Cheers in advance

when you say cuts of do you mean everything goes dead or just the heater goes of?
3 elements i belive
these are all gueses
stat is faulty and is over heating and everything is cutting out very rareon this model bottom/or top element most likely blown on the conventional oven or door hinges are worn broken/or seal is dmg at bottom and missing letting to much air out.
if on fan oven the fan element gets to 200 or 180 then struggles to get any higher nm how long u keep it on going by the dial and neon never goes out , and its not burning everything and it still don,t seem to be getting hot enough inside then , i would say door not closing 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} tight or seal.October 21, 2008 at 11:32 am #265841only1salty

Sorry – so a bit clearer.
The oven doesn’t get any hotter than the temperature I said. It stays around that temperature.
Had a new “goalpost” seal added a couple of months ago. The one at the bottom appears OK and there doesn’t seem to be excessive heat loss from any of the door sides or bottom. Hinges also look good to the eye.
Is there a way of testing if one of the elements has failed?

Thought I would double check as I am following the wife’s instructions (never a good thing :rolls: )
There does seem to be quite a bit of warm air blowing out of the bottom of the oven door so you could be spot on here.
Guessing that the bottom seal is fairly cheap to fix and so will have a crack at that first.
Don’t suppose anyone can show me a link to the correct part on the websites shop???

The seal isn’t your issue. 😉
There are two safety cut outs at the top of the oven, part number 2.12SPA012130 and also 2.12SPA13130 and, I’d suspect, that either one of those is faulty or one of the oven stats is faulty. It is more likely to be the safety stats though as it happens with both ovens.
Both thermostats are a special order but an email to Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will soon get you prices and availability on them.
There is also a stat in there that controls the cooling fan and, if either of that stat or the fan motor is faulty, then the oven will overheat and cut out on the safety stats.
The lower oven door seal is part number 2.12GDR013440 and is available from this link

Thanks for that. I have the prices for the 2 part numbers you suggested.
Are they fairly straightforward to replace. I am not a complete plonker but wouldn’t class myself as fully skilled!!!
Is it a case of removing the hob cover and the parts are obvious??

From memory you should be able to get to them with the back panel off, but it’s been a while since I saw one of these machines.

unless i misunderstood the fault hehe
i still think heat escape.March 15, 2009 at 2:16 pm #265847only1salty

Hi back on the case again. Same fault after replacing the safety cut of devices suggested above. There is a mention of a couple of stats.
Any chance you could suggest any other replacement parts that may cause this problem?
The wife has her eyes on a £1200 replacement and if I can’t fix this I will be paying for a new cooker for about 2 years.

Hi Si,
What I’d do is this…
Ignore the oven thermostat and test it with a digital thermometer to see just exactly what temperature the oven was actually reaching.
Those machines are pretty basic in real terms so you have a main thermostat that controls the temperature in the oven itself that simply switches on or off dependent on the set temperature and a safety stat or two that shut it down if it overheats.
Is it possible that the oven is overheating and cutting out on the safety stat?
If so that’d indicate the main stat was faulty.
If not then it would indicate, most likely, that the oven wasn’t being cooled effectively either by the oven fan motor or the cooling fan motor (if one’s fitted, I haven’t checked) and again cutting out on the safety stat/s.
You have to remember that the safety cut out thermostats are simple, dumb devices that only do one thing, open at a pre-set temperature. So, if the cut out detects that temperature it simple opens and (usually) chops off the live supply to the element and/or whatever to get the oven to stop.
Heat loss is a factor, yes but not as big as you’d think and certainly losing heat wouldn’t cause and overheat stat to trip out. 😉

OK heres the latest.
I tried to measure the temperature but don’t have a thermometer capable of going that high. It thinks I am dead now 😀
The problem in summary again. The cooker has many settings. The 2 most used by the wife are; Fan Assisted Oven and Conventional Oven.
Both of these don’t seem to get much hotter than 160-180 (according to the stat that clicks on and off). Now the wife assures me that everything takes an age to cook on these settings so I will take her word for it. This would indicate to me that the stat seems right.
I replaced both safety cut out switches with the parts recommended above but this made no difference.
The cooling fan was replaced a while back. This went about 18 months ago. Hope its not that.
Lastly the only setting that seems to be useable is the Hot Air Cooking. The manual says that this is an element in the back around the cooking fan and the fan blows air across it and into the oven to cook the food.
So now I have come to a stop.
Is there anything else it could be? Could it be one of the elements top or bottom malfunctioning or are these pretty dumb devices?
The top one seems to get pretty hot as when I touch it with a cloth it is damn hot.
Could the bottom element be a problem?

ParticipantI’ve got exactly the same issue with my Diplomat ADP5330 at the moment.
In “Conventional Oven” mode it won’t go above about 180 degrees.
In “Fan Oven” mode it won’t go above about 160 degrees.
It seems like the bottom element might be dead as the warming drawer under the oven isn’t getting very warm at all, whereas it used to get pretty warm if the oven was used for a while.
To add insult to injury, the “minute minder” beeper has stopped working so I can’t even time the under-cooking of my food in the under-performing oven.
only1salty – did you find a solution in the end?

On conventional oven setting two elements should be on…one inside at the top and one below the base panel. The easiest way to check the lower element function is to switch on from cold, set the stat up highish and lay a hand on the oven base….you should detect the heat beginning to rise with your hand after only a minute or two.
The fan oven uses a third element behind the back panel but not the top or bottom elements.
If you’ve got heat on the base as well as the top element in conventional mode then the oven stat has to be prime suspect 😉

ParticipantQuick update:
The minute minder beeper is now working.
The stats appear to be fine but the bottom element is knackered.
I opened up the cover over the bottom element and turned the oven on – the top element immediately got hot, the bottom element remained cold and visibly looked in bad condition.
It looks like the OEM part is now obsolete but I’ve found an equivalent here.
Now I just need to figure out how to get to and remove the bottom element mounts in order to replace it…
