ParticipantHi,
My hotpoitn WD640P has started to show a F-08 fault, now according to the error code its a static heater fault. Being a electronics engineer i have removed the pcb and checked the relay and the relay drive and all appear to be o.k. The strange thing is that you can get f-08 error just be switching the machine on and leaving in for 30 seconds, you hear a relay click and then the f-08 error appears. I guess what i need to know is what makes the relay click, is there a feedback from the heater element etc.
Thanks in advance for any help

Participantstatic heater fault?
who told you that
it needs a board
or a relayread the previous threads, we’ve had this conversation hundreds of times

F08 = static heater relay fault for a Condenser Dryer, not a Washer
As Helo says, it will be more than likely a new board, or a relay if ur luckyOctober 23, 2008 at 8:48 am #266092pau1200

Thanks for the update, I checked the heater circuit out and it works fine, on a wash cycle it switches on and off correctly. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the pressure switch, as it only fails before it starts to spin, machine operates correctly for everything else.
I also get the f08 error when the machine powers up, if i do not start a cycle within 30 seconds i get f08 error message. The reason i suspect the pressure switch is if i unplug the pressure switch i do not get the f08 error message on power up. I have physically checked the pressure switch by measuring continuity between the 3 terminals under pressure and without pressure and it seems to switch o.k. This leaves me with where the pressure tube comes from.
Is the pressure tube easy to get too to check?October 23, 2008 at 3:17 pm #266093helo_75
Participantwhich part of ‘it needs a board or at least a relay’ didnt you understand?
f10 is a pressure switch fault
f8 is shown when the heater circuit is on with no water in.. it doesnt do it when you unplug the pressure switch because your disabling the heat protect circuit
THE BOARD IS PROBABLY FAULTY

Please dont think i am questioning your knowledge, i am not in any trying to that. What i am trying to do is understand what is going on with my washing machine, you have now given me a little more to go on as in the heater circuit is on when the tub is empty. I know the the heater circuit isnt on but obviously the feedback signal is stuck in a state, so i should be able to recreate the fault with the heater disconnected. It will probally be some sort of transistor/fet which is hard on.
As engineers do you diagnose the pcbs to component level and do you have any schematics for them as this would be really usefull. Thanks

just to update this thread, the fault was due to the heater element, when insulation tested a short was found to earth which caused the voltage detect circuit on the main pcb to think it was on when it wasnt. The joys of using a potential divider.
Thanks for your help helo_75, much appreciated. Hope i can return the help some time.
