ParticipantWhirlpool top loader. Rating plate under lid is missing – no ’85’ numbers at all I’m afraid. Sorry. It’s an ‘American’ type machine.
I don’t like these at the best of times. The motor runs, but there is no agitator action and the machine won’t spin. There is a loud clattering from the motor area as the motor is started. Does not sound happy…….
Had the body off and the gearing is enclosed, so due to the prices of the gears on Connect, I would like some pointers please. Its been used in a hotel, so it is well worn.Any help please??

Drive coupling? Pull the motor and see if the four pronged thingy still has prongs on it. 😀

Three pronged. Well, six in total; three on each half.

Thanks guys!!
By “pull the motor”, do you mean unbolt the motor from the gearbox? I can’t find the coupling listed. 😕

remove the cabinet by unscrewing two screws on facia, slide foward and flip back over. remove two clips, unplug wiring loom, now remove cabinet.
the pump unclips from the motor, 2 4BA screws holding the motor clips, then motor comes off for easy access to coupling part number 481932528035. nice and easy to work on once you have seen a couple.October 25, 2008 at 8:04 am #266458roly16

Yes, the motor is secured to the gearbox by two spring clips which are screwed into the motor end frame. Disconnect the wiring to the motor and capacitor, remove the screws, snap the clips off and the motor pulls off. You’ll then see the two halves of the resilient drive. It’s easy.
It’s part no. 481932528035

i did not like these machines at first got used to them now most parts are very easy to fit and maintain they look a lot harder than thet actually are
can fit this clutch in under 10 mins cant do that in most other machines

That’s right. You just have to know how to get into them. They’ve even got a schematic diagram inside.

Lots of info on http://www.appliancejunk.com if you get stuck – pics and videos. The funny bit is that they don’t “get” front loaders……

There are other funny bits too. Definitely not a British way of discussing technical problems and fault diagnosis…… :rolls:

Well, I fitted a drive coupling to this machine as the original one was worn on the motor shaft. Not a bad job after all.
Still no drive to the drum or paddle. I’m pretty sure the gearbox itself is knacked, so what next? I should have heeded the “don’t get involved” gut feeling I had when I started this job.
Any further ideas welcome!!Thanks,
Steve.
