Whirlpool 6th Sense Tumble Dryer Fault Codes

This set of fault codes for the 6th Sense series of tumble dryer models from Whirlpool sold throughout Europe but may also relate to any other Whirlpool produced tumble dryer models. These fault codes also relate to models sold under the Hotpoint and Ignis brand names.

These error codes do not relate to ALL Whirlpool tumble dryers. If you are unsure please ask in the forums as well as for all other Whirlpool tumble dryer fault codes.

  Whirlpool Tumble Dryer Spares

We have purposely not listed any Whirlpool tumble dryer spares in this article as it covers multiple models from a vast range with numerous changes made to the spare parts used and subsequent replacement spare parts. They will also often look the same or similar yet be different or, look totally different yet be completely compatible as they’ve been altered.

Please, don’t guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used. In order to find parts with 100% accuracy on a Whirlpool product the 12NC number from the rating plate is the all important bit of information.

We would rather take the time to check for you and get it right.

  Whirlpool Tumble Dryer Test Procedure

Close the door or door switch.

Switch the tumble dryer on.

Rotate the program dial to the “Mix” program as shown below.

Press and release the “option” button often shown as the “Gentle” function three times within five seconds.

Press the start button to begin the service test or to advance.

Any of the following will end the test program:

• Switch off the appliance
• Open the door
• Last step of the test sequence is executed and test exits

  Whirlpool Tumble Dryer Fault Codes

These fault codes are written for tumble dryer repairers to troubleshoot problems and not for the general public by Whirlpool and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. Where the model of tumble dryer does not have an LED display panel it will use the small indicator LED lights to present an error code using the progress and function LEDs. Where appropriate these are shown underneath the corresponding code that will be displayed in the LED panel.

 

F01

Heating element error or blockage detected Check wiring to the heating element Check the heating element for any visual issues and electrically test the element Check for fluff/lint around the heater and housing, clean as required Check heater control relay on the main control board Check main control unit, change if problem persists

 

F02

Data corruption This error indicates that there is a data corruption detected in the main control module and most of the following, other than the service reset, can only be carried out by a Whirlpool technician with the reprgramming tools that are not available to non-Whirlpool employees. Apply the service reset procedure as below If reset does not cure then reprogram the main controller with eSam module If problem persists, replace the main control unit

 

F03	Error on humidity sensing system detected Check wiring to sensors Check wiring and operation of the humidity sensing module where fitted If problem persists replace main control unit

 

F04	Heating element failure detected Check heating element limit thermostat or sensor Check heating element electrically Clean any fluff or lint from the heating element If faulty replace the heating element and retest If problem persists replace main control unit

 

F05	Air channel NTC issue detected (Set 1) Check NTC sensor resistance Check wiring to NTC sensor Clean any fluff or lint around the sensor

 

F06	Heater NTC sensor erorr detected (Set 2) Check NTC sensor resistance Check wiring to NTC sensor Clean any fluff or lint around the sensor

 

F07

No drum rotation detected Check that drum can be turned by hand without excessive force Check main drive belt Check motor is connected and turning, can use test priocedure above On models with belt sensor a faulty sensor can cause F07 error On vented dryers check humidity strips and sensors If problem persists replace main control unit

 

F08	Heater relay cannot be activated Check wiring Check tumble dryer heating element Tap relays as they can jam on new boards Check electronic control PCB

 

F10	Communication error between main control unit and motor control unit, brushless motor models only Check connection and cabling between the main control unit and motor control unit Apply service reset procedure below

F23	Compressor fault detected on heat pump tumble dryer models Perform temperature test and check using the service test procedure above

 

F24	Fan defect detected on heat pump tumble dryer models Check fan is not blocked or obstructed by fluff or lint Check main control unit to fan wiring Check fan If all looks okay but fan still not operational replace fan unit

 

F33	No communication with wifi module Check your wifi setup Turn on the wifi module

 

F70	No communication with main control unit As F21

 

F73	Touch button failure detected Check that the display card user interface is mechanically okay

 

F98	Dryness level not supported Main control card requires reprogrammed

 

F99	Cycle ID not available in main control unit Main control module requires reprogramming

  Whirlpool Tumble Dryer Reset Procedure

 These tumble dryers can be reset using the following procedure:

• Turn on the tumble dryer main power
• Within 10 seconds turn the program selector from off to teh 6 o’clock postion, pointing straight down
• Push the “Start” button three times
• Turn the program selector to the “one” position which should be the CW or airing program
• Push the start button three times once more

Your tumble dryer should now be reset.
