ParticipantMy washing machine has started to make a terrible noise when it goes onto spin. It sounds as though there are shoes, or bricks in there! I removed my washing after the spin cycle had finished and several of the clothes have black marks (powdery) on them with the inprint of the drum on them, the black marks are loose and smudge when touched.
Can someone advise?November 1, 2008 at 1:57 pm #267192helo_75

Participantwhen u turn the drum by hand, does it rumble?
if you open the door, and just try to lift the inner metal drum by the front edge, is there movement?
if there is, its a sign the bearings are going/gone

I cant hear any rumble so to speak of, but when i lift the inner drum at the front near the seal it moves up and tilts ever so slightly towards the back of the drum

Participantyour bearings are goosed
and its not really a diy job, quite physically demanding, and depending on the amount of wear, could be £80-£120 to put right properly

OMG 🙁 I cant afford that amount of money, My other half is an electrician and has had a go at fixing my washers in the past. He has replaced the motor on this washer, the belt and i think brushes at some point. Do you think he would be able to do it? What price can i expect to pay for the part roughly?
Why does everything break down all at once? dishwasher broke, washing machine broke, mobile phone playing up (broke) and just had the car fixed 👿
Im glad ive found this site 😆

Participantit isnt impossibe
the unfortunate thing ( and youve got to understand this) is that we have no idea of his ability in this field
people have done it, with varying degrees of difficulty, it involves taking the drum out completely, splitting it, replacing the bearings, seals, etc
bit time consuming, and im sure an email to the online shop with the PNC number from the inside of the door will be able to avise you on the price and availibility of spares

Participanthttp://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … l+Kit.html
should be the bearing kit
and
http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … +Seal.html
is the drum seal
not overly expensive
but like i say, its down to whether he wants to attempt itNovember 1, 2008 at 3:20 pm #267202Nicky321

He works as an electrical fitter in the water industry, and most work is obviously manual, a lot of heavy difficult lifting etc. he also knows his electrical although most i of this i assume would be manual. The seal will also need replacing when the bearings are replaced? I think he could manage it 😉
