Received a Bosch dishwasher module 264877 from Connect today for job booked for tomorrow. I noticed the box had been opened and very neatly resealed with sellotape, so thought I’d better check the contents carefully. Everying seemed to be there, if a little creased, packing papers, technical notes, spare edge connector plug, damp proof membrane, etc.

I still had my suspicions, so prised open the plastic casing. I found the edge terminals heavily scored, some surface blemishing and darkened tracks around the heater relay. I wobbled the relay casing and found cracked solder joints!

Obviously a damaged used board, disguised as an unwanted return. Would any Connect account holder do such a thing. I don’t think so. But of course, Connect now supply to Joe Public under their 4ourhouse.co.uk, 4bosch.co.uk, etc websites, and their retail customers are no no doubt starting to exercise their “Distance Selling” 7 day return rights.

To be fair to Connect, they imediately apologised and arranged for a replacement to be sent today free if charge. You can’t ask for more than that really, but it obviously pays to check parts received opened carefully.

    Result indeed I’m sure

But this is not an isolated incident IIRC? Genuine Bosch (BSH) parts of this type come in a sealed box and BSH use brown paper tape seals ribbed with a double cord. Any attempt to open these packages breaks that seal rendering the goods ‘soiled’ in the process.

I’ve never bought BSH spares from anyone other than BSH but I am led to believe other 3rd party suppliers often repackage genuine spares to suit their own systems? If that’s true then it’s an odd process that lends itself to these errors occuring no doubt. 😉

I’ll stick to buying from BSH especially when it involves purchasing electronic circuit boards, thanks very much.

have seen these tricks before form not only the general public who think you are going to supply parts so they can find the fault on their machines but also from trade customers who get the diagnosis wrong and return the part they have had in circuit to test if they have got it right

I’ve been both sides of the fence, when i worked for electrue we had some ‘faulty’/used parts sent back by trade account holders but of late we have seen an increase in public returns finding a way into connects system.

DSR only allows for a change of mind and to return the item as supplied, in a new condition.

It does not allow a customer to fit a part to aid diagnosis and then return it when they find out that they guessed wrongly.

The problem doesn’t lie with the DSR, it’s with whoever is monitoring the returns that is the problem by allowing used parts to be accepted back for credit. Either that or they’re just taking a punt that the parts are okay and shipping them anyway.

    K.
