    Hi,

My hotpoint BD42 oven/grill was pre heating when a frazzle sound came from either the oven or the fuse box anyway the 30amp fuse blew on the board, when opening the oven door a puff of black smoke came out, though
there was no burnt smell, can anyone help?

    Cheers

    Julian

When you say you opened the oven door was this the top oven or main?

Sounds as though an element has blown, usually physically obvious when it takes out the main fuse.

A careful visual examination followed by testing each element with a meggar or multimeter is required.

There is one element under the base of the top oven that you cannot see, side panels have to be removed to access that for testing.

Be sure to isolate from the mains if you intend to have a look.

    Jim.

    Cheers Jim,

It was the main oven that this happened, I have isolated the mains and have the oven out and on the ground top off and back off what is the setting
for the meter, there is what looks like element connections at the back?

    Thanks

    Julian

Unusual for the main oven to fail whilst using the top oven. 😕

I would have checked the main oven element without pulling the machine out.

Just remove the inside back panel to access.
