ParticipantOK 😡
Driven toditraction with this possessed machne. It has the ‘flow meter’problem 👿 and despite all sorts of personal attention (it is only 3 years old) annoys me every so often (measured in weeks nitially and now in days) continus to offend.
Having cut a ‘service duct’ to enable a ‘wiggle’ of the flow meter plug and a squirt of contact cleaner, the damn thing is stilll recalcitrant…………….
So…………………………………………………………..Plan a) is to solder a proper plug and socket onto (or adjacent to) the PCB.
Plan b) bin the bloody thing and buy a proper built in applianece that works.
Can anyone (thank you Penguin) comment on Plan a)………….. OK I can imagine.
OR
Suggest a reasonably reliable BUILT-IN, ie FULLY INTEGRATED replacement for this infernal machine?
Many thanks. :rolls:November 13, 2008 at 12:58 am #268301Penguin45

Moi?
Can’t see a reason why you shouldn’t take the plug off and solder the connections. Guaranteed watertight, oxidisation-free connection – so long as you’re sure that the reed switch is functioning.
Whirlpool may well remove you from their Christmas card list though, for failing to buy their spare parts.
Quality built-in replacement? NEFF, um NEFF, er NEFF…..

Thanks for your reply.
Yep, the reed switch IS functioning – removed my plasic inspection hatch 😯 and checked this morning.
Good ‘penguinesque thinking’ – a permanent connection, I was still thinking plug and socket – I may persevere with this for a little longer as it does wash quite well. In the meantime I shall save up my pennies for a NEFF,NEFF,NEFF, fnar! 😆
Any in particular or are they all decent?
Thanks again.
PS re-read my post and it looks like I am drunk – another job needs doing – cleaning the contacts under my keyboard.
If Mr Whirlpool priced his bits more attractively (as it were) I would get a Christmas card, it is just that £60 for an injected, polythene moulding with a 30mm sliver of PCB attached seems somewhat over the top when production costs are very likely considerably less than 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of that figure.
AND it represents 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the cost of a Neff, Neff, Neff, – fnar, fnar! 😆

Hi
They are all good machines the Neff, Neff, Neff 😉 😆 just depends on how many bells and whistles you want along with how much you want to spend.

Thanks Don.
Which bells and whistles do you think are really required?
I’ve never had a dishwasher that dries properly, you know the tops of cups and mugs

Hi
For most families the S5555X0GB fills most requirements. As for drying performance avoid plastic tupperware type containers and don`t overload.

😆
Done 😆
Much easier having cut the ‘wiggle’ hole last month – no casings to take off.
Works a treat. 😀
On inspection, the inside of the plug appears abnormal. Of the four ‘double bent’ fingers of the plug, one appears to have a single bend ie. there is either a bit missing or it has folded back on itself when originally fitted. i suspect this is the root of the problem. I shall have to dissect it, out of interest, at my leisure this afternoon. The ‘slot in’ connection for the small wires (within the plug) don’t appear too clever either…………….Solder 1, Plug nil :rolls: 😉
Still going to save for a NEF,NEFF,NEFF though………………… 😀
