ParticipantHi folks
Went to the above m/c.. noise appears when m/c is hot and sounds like a rubbing/vibrating sound from rear of m/c (bit like those dry front felt bearings on the old Creda/Bendix 6lb m/c’s)..
Was a bit strapped for time and as these m/c pig to strip just to get at the back + cust desperate to keep using, just wondered if anyone come across this before and I could go armed with the parts and do the job in one go?..
Sounds like a dry rear drum seal? Thought it might be rear bearing but when I removed the bearing cover looked like a ball bearing type fitted so that ruled that out out.. also can make the noise once warmed up by turning the drum by hand and pushing drum back..
Any help appreciated..
Thanks
Mick

You will need to make note of the production date code to be sure of ordering the correct drum shaft kit for starters. Often the only true solution is a new drum assembly which comes with all the bits you need including rear support flange.
The only positive way forward is to strip it all out and suss what bits you need first, bearing in mind often repairs of this nature are BER anyway. 😥

bra wire ❓ gone through holes and caught in between drum and back panel ,had this on a hotpoint the other day which last engineer had missed.

Thanks 4 the replies guys.. dont think it is a bra wire as it was a rubbing rather than a scraping noise.. but always a posibiltity..
Martin are you sayin you think it is the drum bearing then even tho it is a ball bearing type rather than those old ceramic type?
Either way looks like a retun visit n strip down if no one come across this before..
Thanks for the help

Sorry folks been busy and meant to post an update..
It was the drum seal at the back of m/c that was making the noise..
Sorry was misleading you all with the bearing description it was a bronze bush type – it was the shim washer that made it look like a ball bearing type on first glance..
Hope this helps
