ParticipantHad a friend of mine who ordered a Bosch dishwasher via the Currys online shop. THe machine arrived a week later and he asked me to install it. When we unboxed the product the door has a large dent in it !
No problem I said just call them and asked them to change it, this he did and Currys have refused point blank to change or refund the damage product and into the bargain have suggested that he has damaged it !!
Based on the fact that his good lady signed the drivers deilvery note thay it was receieved in good condiiton. They wont budge and I have told him to pursue it as there was no way of knowing it was damaged until unpacked and that the the fact that as his lady signed for this she signed a amigous receipt and the drivers would not wait until the appliance was unpacked so they had know way of knowing even if the appliance was damaged or not !
Talk about good customer service ! To my mind they are liable for this and by getting customers to sign for goods that are packed and then dispute any damage claim is unreasonable.

This type of instance is typical of many where home deliveries are just left unpacked and recipients ask to sign for. I had a similar problem with a 3 piece suite a few years back. Dumped in my lounge complete with transit packaging. Un-packed later only to find a fault with the stitching on one chair. The ensuing hastle was a nasty business.
Learning from that it’s always advisable to write on the drivers delivery sheet:
GOODS LEFT PRE-PACKED AND UN-INSPECTED….signed………..dated…..
If subsequent damage is noted and reported within a reasonable period of time to the supplier, they must then arrange a replacement.
Failing that the customer should not proceed to install the delivered goods but again contact the supplier and demand they collect the goods and issue a full refund.

Surely Bosch would send an engineer with a replacement door. We get this on a regular basis being a request by the customer to attend as a service call to replace a door or side panel as Transit damage, and never a problem.

Don`t tell me let me guess was it a SGS45C02 by any chance? I have had three in the last couple of weeks recieved with creased door panels.
They are so thin you only need to put your knee aginst one and that`s it dented 👿 replacement outer door skin £70 plus VAT absolutely ridiculous.
That aside all three have been uplifted for credit, it`s just the poor old customer that has to wait for a replacement that I feel sorry for.

Advise the customer to use her Consumer Protection Laws.
It is up to the retailer (Currys) its nothing to do with Bosch unless she agrees to a repair, to prove the unit was not damaged and fit for purpose when it was delivered, not for the customer to prove it wasnt. This law applies for the first 6 months. This is her statutory right. I
Currys will never be able to do it and contrary to popular belief, Currys have no legal ability to interfere with a customer statutory rights irrespective of what they claim she signed on their paperwork.
If they dont sort it and very quickly as in 5 days, small claims court for the cost of the appliance and the loss and suffering she has had to endure as a result.

It is and isn’t off-topic Mark. More on than off I expect as retailers like Currys and Comet dictate a lot of the pricing that you see so any cost cutting measures are often down to either them demanding products meet certain price points or the manufacturer trying to sneak in under the competition and increasing volumes. It’s not quite as simplistic as that obviously but the basic premise is sound enough.
The thing is, as a manufacturer, along comes this EU wide legislation that says that you have to pay for the waste you put onto the market and that this is done by weight. On top of that you have increases in the cost of raw material as well as the aforementioned demands by retailers et all…
It isn’t rocket science to work out what’s going to happen next is it?

TBH , there’s not that many like that . Its the one’s with the inner plastic base that tend to have the ‘half’ panels

Well I advised the customer to phone Currys back and this time take a firm stance with them by refering to their legal rights under the relevant consumer laws including section 74 of the consumer credit act as they had used a card to make the purchase.
Following that phone conversation Currys are now picking up the damage item and making a full refund as the customer has no further wish to deal with them ! and who can blame them. Another sale and customer lossed in this credit crunch due to poor judgement on the part of Customer Service Staff employed at DSG.

Well done
Firm stance and use of her statutory rights has eventually paid off. Its just a pity Currys carnt see past the end of their nose to look after a customer, whom would, I am sure have been a long loyal customer had they done so.

Curry’s loss is your gain Squadman, I hope you took full advantage and made a sale as well as showing her how ‘service’ should be.
