ParticipantHi,
Just stumbled across this forum following weeks of wasted effort…
I have a Smeg UK-1065x Built in oven which has already had several new Panes of Glass but now I have a bigger problem and I hope someone may be able to help.
The Oven doesn’t seem to want to work. The symptons are when selecting the Fan setting on the Function switch and setting the temperature. Nothing happens. The neon doesn’c light and the fan doesn’t come on.
If I leave the Fan oven function set and then turn the temperature dial off the neon comes on.
Also if I leave the oven temperature on and the fan oven selected although no neon it does start to get warm eventually – though not as hot as I would expect.
I have replaced the commutator for the function selection and having looked inside there isn’t a lot else other then the Thermostat and the LED controller. The last part I want to ‘risk’ buying is the LED display as it is nearly £200.
Have looked at calling out an engineer but at £75 callout and £15 per 15 minutes (plus parts) I can’t afford that.
Any advice welcomed.
Regards

Hi,
Yes indeed.
It is strange. If I select the Fan oven (or any other ‘cooking’ setting) and set a temperature (say 200) no neon but after a few seconds the fan comes on (still no neon though). If I turn the temperature down the neon comes on at around 50.
The oven does warm but to what temperature I’m not sure so can’t be used to cook anything.
The rotisserie function works (as in it turns) but still no neon …
Thanks for the reply…

Just been trying to find out what this can be and wasn’t sure it had anything to do with the thermostat so I took that out of the equation (joined the in/out wires). The oven still functions as before i.e. the neon doesn’t light but it does warm…
Am I right in thinking I can rule out a problem with the Stat ?

Participantwarming a little bit could indicate an element problem, but it could be the stat or the TOC if the neon does not come on.
This sounds a tricky fault so I would suggest calling an engineer out.I agree with you £75 callout and £15 per 15 minutes is alot.
Most people won’t charge per hour but per job, alot fairer in my opinion.November 22, 2008 at 5:44 pm #269043admin

Hi
Sounds like the thermostat is faulty.

Hi,
I thought hotwiring (bypassing the stat) sort of proved it wasn’t that if the oven still exhibits the same odd behaviour ?
I’m buying a new thermostat tomorrow so will see if that’s all it is but I have a suspicion it is something else entirely….
Thanks everyone for your replies.

Just an update on this.
It looks like the neon is working in reverse. It is off when the oven is warming but comes on when it reaches temperature….
very odd
