ParticipantHi
Can anyone help ?
I have just moved into a house with the above cooker installed. It was installed in 2006 and the previous owners have not left the manual. I have called MFI who were about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard. The problem is the botton oven is loosing a lot of heat out the top part of oven door near the handle. I thought it may be the seal and from inspection there is a gap in the seal about 10cms at the top where the seal is attached to front of the oven. I was not sure if this was suppose to be like this, where the gap is there is aluminium metal. Without the manual or any experience with these ovens I cannot work out if I did a new seal or not.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards

I’d be checking whether or not the door pulls fully home or not. If you can push the top of the door in more than approximately 5mm when it’s closed, you haven’t got a seal and the heat loss will be great.
I confess that I don’t know this particular model, but based on general experience this problem may well be based on hinge wear.

that is normal and the metal strip is ment to be there is part of the design.
you will lose heat from there nothing u can do, is designed to left the air in and out for the flame, but heat rises so u get heat comming out allso.
they also use same version of oven carcuss on the electric version as well with same seal and metal stip.
also as pen says if its the new type metal silver colour hinges then the door should be sitting at slight angle when main oven door fully open, if its sitting level or downwards hinges are gone as well i think .November 24, 2008 at 8:32 pm #269312c4mpo

Hi
Thanks for the responding so rapidly.
The door appears to be ok, pulls all the way and there is a seal. As I say both the oven and grill have this gap at the top of the seal.
Cant imagine this not there for a reason.
I does loose a lot if heat though.
Anymore suggestions ???

Hi All
Thanks again for all the info, especially on the metal strip.
It is a gas oven, the hinges are not silver metal but black same colour as oven. The door does sit flat i.e. 90 degrees to the front of the oven when opening.
So do we reckon its still the hinges and can they be sourced and easily installed by an amateur ????
If its not the hinges any other ideas ?
Cheers

heat esacpe on top of door at center is normal .<<
if u losing lots of heat from side maybe new door seal if its old oven
black hinges = old version nothing u beable to doNovember 28, 2008 at 1:05 am #269316wsts
ParticipantThe gap at the top of the oven door seal is the flue, expect alot of heat escape from it, its only the same as any other gas oven except you notice it more because its coming out of the front rather than the back.
