ParticipantHi,
I have the stated fridge freezer. Had it for around 8 faultless years. Just recently (past week or so) it started making a very loud grinding/whirring noise. I took the back off and found the noise to be coming from the fan on the evaporation tray inside a big coil.
The fan was full of dust bunnies (cute eh?) and wasn’t spinning very fast. I cleaned them off but it’s not better. I suspect it’s the bearings or something equally non-repairable.
As it doesn’t seem to spin very fast I disconnected it to spare our ears from the wailing.
Just wanted some confirmation that running it without the fan shouldn’t cause me any problems until I can source a new fan motor. Thanks for your help

sorry, if it didn’t need the motor, they wouldn’t waste money putting it in!
Without the fan, the condensor cannot disipate the heat pulled from the fridge interior…the compressor will get a lot hotter which could cook the motor-windings……dead compressor =junk fridge. 🙁why not remove the offending motor and try oiling the bearings?
light oil (the household stuff) or sewing-machine oil, or car automatic transmission fluid….or Citroen LHM green oil are all ok…..a cocktail stick makes a good dropper…..angle the motor to drop oil where it’s needed (gravity is useful!)
Even ball-bearings can be revived (spray-grease can help.them , if accessible)November 30, 2008 at 9:05 pm #269905IncredibleMrT

You misunderstood – I wasn’t suggesting that it made no difference, I was simply asking for advice as to whether or not I would be able to run it ‘safely’ without for a week or two.
As it is it’s been off now for a good few days and it doesn’t feel any hottor than it was (I have a thermometer next to the coil to keep an eye on it 😉 )Anyway, found this motor http://www.4daewoo.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=1210459&brand=&model=FR-661&part=fan
Just wondered if anyone else was able to source it at a better price.December 2, 2008 at 12:29 am #269906cockney steve

sorry ,Mr. T -didn’t really mean to be stroppy 😳
Have you tried the “parts” link on this site?
if it’s not listed, try an e-mail…….your support helps keep this site running, you get a top-quality part and the delivery is first-class.
I don’t query if I can find it cheaper elsewhere, as the hassle isn’t worth it.

Hi mr T
The compressor will get too hot whithout the fan running,If youve removed it then put a desk fan next to the compressor & condensor to get the air movement back as a short term measure only.
You will need to confirm that the fan motor you have shown is the correct one as its listed as a freezer fan motor and the motor you require is a CONDENSOR fan motor.
