ParticipantDear all,
Can someone help me please?
Our fridge has started to operate continuously.
My guess is that the thermostat is the problem.Do you agree the problem is likely to be the thermostat?
If I try to make the repair is it easy for me to change the thermostat or should I pay for help? If I can do it, do you know where I can get any instructions?Thank you for your support.

Hi Pete,
Yes it’s almost certainly the thermostat that’s at fault which is available, HERE

Hi Kwatt,
Thanks for the quick reply. Can anyone help with the other part of my question please?
Is the repair something I should try – never having looked at the fridge before and having no drawings etc – or should I pay for help.BTW. My wife has been playing and now the temperature control switch doesn’t even switch the fridge off – it definitely did before!
I’m guessing it won’t matter if the thermostat works…..Thanks again, all help appreciated.

Can anyone help with this please?
All I need to know is if the thermostat can be easily swapped out.
If not I’ll call someone to come out.(My wife’s not keen on me taking it out of the units unless I know I can fix it)
Alternatively does anyone know where I can get a technical instruction manual – I haven’t found one on the net
Thanks
Pete

Unplug appliance, remove from enclosure, at front centre on top remove inspection cover, gently remove thermostat noting where wires connect and pull it out locating capillary tube entrance hole. Reassemble making sure you have the wires on the correct tags and that the capillary tube (looks like a piece of wire attached to thermostat) is fully home.

Dear all,
Thank you for your help – the thermostat is now fitted and the fridge is working again. But I have a left over part and would appreciate your advice:
The new thermostat came with a nut, and although I could see where it might fit, couldn’t see the purpose. Anyway we didn’t notice the nut on the old thermostat until all had been reinstalled into the kitchen unit. It’s sole purpose seems to retain a ‘clip’ onto the edge of the thermostat body but the clip seems also to have no purpose. Am I ok to leave the fridge without the nut and clip?NB. Installing the thermostat was confusing at first because the original thermostat had additional connectors – 1 of which the earth was attached to. But the connectors were numbered as on the replacement so it was easy to marry the wires up to the same numbered connectors. There were 2 “lugs” on the side of the new thermostat so the earth was connected to one of them. There seems to be a little more interference on the radio when the fridge door is opened, but otherwise all is fine.
Thanks again.

just for the benifit of any future readers of this thread……the thermostat will probably, no, almost certainly, fit several different fridges…..each model will have it’s own mounting-method…..the replacement comes with the bits needed to fit all variants.saves having umpteen on the shelf and the last one is ALWAYS the correct variant.
The interference from the fridge door is unlikely to be affected by the thermostat, unless the doorswitch cuts the compressor/fan etc. as well as switching the lamp. (I could visualise old, burnt contacts having some HF (spark) quenching properties, but it’s highly unlikely.
In short…..parts often come with extras to cover variants
the interference is almost certainly from the lamp-switch…..open the door quicker and push it that last couple of inches closed quicker.December 15, 2008 at 7:42 pm #270206peteuk

Hi Cockney Steve,
Thanks to you and all who helped before – your advice gave me the confidence to go ahead and change the thermostat.
This site is a great find.
(I had to fight my wife to do it – she wanted a new fridge which we can ill afford).I appreciate the advice about the interference too. I didn’t actually think it was the thermostat but the fact I mentioned it shows a certain lack of confidence in what I’d done. All resolved now – cheers.

Hi, Same fridge but different issue.
The fridge works fine but I’m confused by the shelves we have.
In the base of the fridge there are 2 salad bin type things and on top of those we have a full length shelf/lid. We use this to put things on which means we can’t access the salad bins.
Does anyone know if this is the correct part or should there be some kind of split lid type thing?
We can’t slide it out because the unit is integrated and only opens out to 90degrees.

Hi Bangers,
Your fridge design is the same as ours.
We didn’t realise this is such a poor design until we installed the kitchen – by then too late because it was all bought and paid for.
It is something we would look out for in any future integrated fridge purchase. Now, like you, the salad bins are wasted space.Pete

Hi Pete,
We’ve had the fridge for over a year now and it’s always bugged us but this is the first time we’ve looked into it.
Gonna wait until it goes kapput and look at getting a new one I think.

You could always ask if “parts @” below this post, can get you a spare shelf
simply put it in the last runner which clears the salad boxes…problem solved and minimal loss of storage-space 😀 ….also a lot cheaper than a new ‘fridge.
Edit,7.36pm…..that should be “find a spare part”

Email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for p/no 248004200 – shelf – is your quickest way to proceed.
