    my whirlpool dishwasher goes through the cycle very quickly. The mechanical nob rotates through a one hour cycle in 5 minutes. all the stages of the cycle are done but just quickly.

    I can only suggest that the programme timer is at fault. Constant advance would suggest some kind of mechanical failure within the unit.
