I have a Bosch SGV43A03GB dishwasher about 6 years old.

Recently it has not been getting things clean like it used to and investigation has showed that the mechanism that switches water to the top and bottom rotors in turn is not working.

Only the bottom rotor sprays any water, although in the past only the top one has worked. It seems to be stuck feeding water to one rotor, although possibly it occasionally does move.

The water alternator is part of the instantaneous water heater assembly. I have checked all the wiring to this and cannot see any problems. There are 3 wires going to what I think switches the water, black/grey, a double white wire, and a red wire. Whilst in operation there is 240V between the centre white wires and one of the other connections (cant remember which one) every few minutes the 240v switches over to the other wire but only for a few seconds. Is this normal ? I also cannot see how on earth you would change this assembly although replacement are readily available. It seems buried deep at the bottom of the machine and very difficult to get to.

I am loathe to scrap this machine as I have in the past stripped all the internal pipework and it is now immaculate inside, when working it does a really good job.

My questions are : does it definitely sound like the water heater or could something else be at fault ?

Does anyone know someone who could be recommended to fix it in the Hatfield, Herts area ?

How much should I expect to pay if it’s the water heater that needs replecing, the part is about 80 quid alone.

have you checked the obvious like blocked spray arm jets ?

Most likely the water point system on the heater IMHO
They are a pig to change on the stainless steel tubs.
Power off before attempting and for any future readers, please never LIVE test.

When I answered the post in here, I was commenting with my public forum head on and not my trade head 😉

disregard my earlier post 😳 was judging that on plastic tub, for any readers in the future its not for the faint hearted. the inner liner has to come off to gain access to heater.

Re: Bosch Dishwasher – water heater faulty ?

Definitely not blocked spray arms – I have meticulously cleaned everything, inside and out. When the rotor is spraying there is loads of water coming through, it just doesnt switch between rotors as it should.

Coming to conclusion its either the water heater or the control module, both expensive parts so might just cut my losses and buy another one unless I can get someone to look at it. Various tales on the forum about faulty water heaters taking out the control module (although I couldn’t see anything burnt out on it) but if I need both parts probably wouldnt be economical to fix.

Ideally I would find someone to diagnose the fault and give a no obligation quote. If anyone knows anyone in the AL9 area who could help please let me know.

I think it would be worth spending £150 to fix but any more I think I wouldn’t bother.

Shame really, I originally bought Bosch because I thought it would be better quality appliance, and the build quality seems much better than the cheap makes, however less than 6 years old and it looks likely to become landfill. Plus I’ve spent hours cleaning every internal pipe where it’s now immaculate inside !

if you look on the PCB on the track side , you’ll see all the small IC’s ( those little black square components ) Have a close look at all of them and see if one of them looks like a bit has broken off the top of it.
If you do find one on the PCboard like that , then you’ll be looking at a new waterheater and module replacement.

Re-opening this thread to ask a basic question please (sorry!).
OP mentioned how he checked the wiring etc for the water heater. I have the same model and water is not heating up during the wash cycle so am assuming also an issue with the water heater – my first question is – how do I find it? Where is it located in this model?
    Appreciate any help.

Hi Bisch – I have similar problem and started thread this week but no response so far. When I ran diagnostics it indicated that flow (aqua) sensor was duff, therefore no power put through to heater element. Have you run a test through the control panel?
