been a great servant over the years ,done brushes ,belt and pump over the last 2 years stopped altogether at w/end ,found the mains link to the capacitor ? (metal bottle with a threaded head ) had came loose and fallen off ,probably due to the shaking and banging about it does ,when it was pulled out i noticed the kitchen floor was holed /rotten due to prevous sink plumbing leaks , this seems to have caused the machine to be off level ,when the lead was back on and the machine was on the level it is not banging anymore ,but it somtimes stops after/near the end of final rinse before the spin cycle a fault it has had for about 18 months ,the red display shows 3 , your help would be greatfully recieved
    cheers grimalkin

so just a quick recap : machine intermittantly stops before final rinse , the number 3 is displayed in the drying time red display with a flashing dot ,the yellow anti crease light flashes ,switch it off at the main dial ,go to final rinse and away she goes ,its a bit of a pest cause it means we cant do a wash when out ,with 3 kids in the house the dam thing is never off ,dont have a manual so need a we bit of advice ,even a hint on the fault code would help …

Sorry , Grimalkin , missed this one . Error 3 is a water in-flow/fill problem . It normally means that the machine is not reaching its fill level within a set time.
Can you hear/see water flowing into the appliance via the detergent drawer. You should try starting a 60*/90* cycle and you should see hear hot water flowing into the machine. If this works ok , try starting a 30*/cold cycle and this should fill with cold water. If one of these tests results in no water intake then that narrows down the fault.

possible faults causes could be –

low cold or hot water inflow pressure –
    blocked strainers in inlet hoses
    faulty inlet valve
Blocked pressure chamber ( lower rear on tub )

Please power off before investigating deeper

thanks for the reply nomadpaul ….was wondering about the brown vacum type switch unit ,(clicks 3 times when sucked ) which is connected to the lower rear of the drum (blown down pipe and is clear/no resistence ),dont know what it is called ! the intake valve /valves do not as far as i am aware sound like they are energizing prior to the fault showing but low water sounds good ,will get another check to confirm water intake as advised and get back to you tomorrow .
    cheers

ok carried out test as directed ,surprise surprise your spot on ,the machine stops on a cold wash (15 wool ) and goes into a wash no probs on a 90 ,when it stops it shows a 3 as per fault ,got the powder tray out and checked for blockages ,all seems clear ,removed cold intake and tested for water pressure ,more than enough presssure/flow ,there is a bank/group of 4 intake valves on the cold side , looking down on them from front of machine there is a yellow top left a grey top right a blue bottom left and a biege bottom right ,there are 3 outlets ,one goes to the dryer side (blue ) biege to the intake tray and yellow to intake tray, the hot water is a lone red valve adjacent on the left , anything else worth checking ? or is it a case of new valve bank/cluster ? you mention a gauze ? is this on the intake side ?

Definitely sounds like a valve problem. If you have the ability , you could test all the valves for resistance – they should read between approx 3K – 4K ohms . POWER OFF IF YOU DO THIS

If you find a cold water valve open circuit then this would most definitely be your problem

The gauze/strainer would be in the hose connection

evening nomadpaul after checking the hot _cold water intake i popped off the top cover and with the PLUG OUT checked each valve electrical connector was tight i removed each one in turn and reconnected them now the machine is working ok so yes a valve defo seems to be faulty will wait till it chucks it again and check them for resistance as advised <many thanks for your help < one thing the mrs has noticed tonight is that there is water in the middle compartment of the detergent tray <it must fill and drain into the machine via a overflow type arrangement <is this the softner compartment ?

did not take too long to chuck it again ,checked them valves and they have all tested ok for continuity/resistance (tested straight after fault came on) 🙁 is it poss that the main cold valve is worn/sticking/weak causing the flow prob ? when it is on a cold cycle the flow when looking through the detergant drawer is weak/low ,watched it on a final rinse and it was flooding through compared to the start of a cold wash , are the valves all set for different flow rates ?

Different “segments” of the valve are activated, depending on the action required. The cold fill/rinse coil is the one most frequently used and therefore the one most likely to fail.

    Sounds like you need THIS.
