I have a LEC elan larder style fridge in garage and it appears to have stopped working. Light comes on etc. So was not sure if it was a thermostat problem. Problem is I do not know how to get into the thermostat to check this out. I have removed the 2 screws, popped the thermostat dial out and undone the nut holding it in place etc. But don’t know how to physically remove the plastic casing. Can anyone tell me how you remove this casing as its driving me mad. The model number is EL654AW and the portion of casing I am talking about kinda sticks out above the door. I can’t see what physically holds this on. I can see clips from the underside but don’t know how it separates. I’d appreciate any help in finding this out…Also it may not be the thermostat so any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance JD76…

If your garage is too cold it wont come on. Put some hot water in a bowl place in fridge and seee if it kicks in.

Thanks simon I’ll give this a try appreciated. Still trying to find out how to remove the part of the casing that contains the thermostat. I had an old Lec fridge with an icebox and it was a workhorse woould work regardless of temperature etc. But it kicked the bucket and I was given this fridge from a friend. I was assured it worked…but everytime I go into it it never appears very cold and I don’t here it kicking in. Maybe your hot water trick will confirm any problems. There does not appear to be too many parts associated with this type of fridge…still heres hoping.. thanks JD

Simon I put the hot water in the fridge as directed and when I went out later the back panel of the fridge was very cold. I believe the fridge must have come on whilst I was in the house. Does this mean that the thermostat is okay…or is there any other tests I can perform….any advice appreciated…thanks john.

    Hi

I’ve got the same fridge as yourself and it’s recently started over working i.e. freezes everything instead of refrigerating. Would really appreciate your help on these 2 points:

    1. Did you manage to get the correct thermostat for the fridge as every where I look I get the result that the spare part has been discontinued. Guessing there might be a generic replacement but if you can point me in the right direction would be great.

    2. If you did fix a new thermostat how easy was it and did you manage to work out how to get the front panel off and such like. I’ve had a cursory look but even removing the top “strip” where the temperature dial is seems to be problematic (even though I’ve removed the two obvious screws that hold it in place.

If you, or anyone else has the time to reply would be really grateful.

    Many thanks
