ParticipantHi
The main oven element on our Smeg SE335SS-5 died. I replaced that and it works fine but the fan motor itself is not working now.
I replaced the fan motor as recommended and new motor doesn’t appear to to work either.
I’ve checked the phyical connectons up to the oven switch and all appears fine.
The oven/fan element has 2 blue cables, earth and 1 white cable with another white cable looped back
The fan motor has one light grey cable which runs back to the oven switch.
With Xmas day racing up fast can anyone please advise me on the wiring or what to check next?
Due to the gas piping from the hob restricting the depth available, we are finding replacing the oven a small nightmare, so any and all help will be gratefully received.
Cheers

You say “The fan motor has one light grey cable which runs back to the oven switch.” Aren’t you missing another wire? 😕

Possibly :hmm:, I only found 1 grey wire attached, nothing else, nothing loose.
The second terminal is bent at an angle on both the motor I took out and the one I put in, but nothing was attached to it.
I’d expect another wire, but I’m no expert :zap:

Sorry but it sounds like when you were changing the element you pulled a wire off the fan motor. Was the fan motor working before you changed the element?
I think it is time you called in an expert. 😉December 24, 2008 at 10:28 am #272337max kirk
ParticipantMy wife assures me the fan mtore was working but I am not sure – it makes no less noise now.
Can I put this query another way.
Lost my job last Thursday. If th oven needs major repairs or to be replaced I’m going t have to pay for the gas piping to bemoved/replaced inaddition to the cst of a new oven.
It’s Christmas Eve, I have no working oven for tomorrow and no single replacment I’ve looked at can fit in under the hob gas pipe or is 35 watts or less.
Is there anyone knowledgeable enough on this forum who can kindly advise so that I can make the best decision with the limited funds I have available?
Cheers

The switched feed will be from the selector switch on front panel. You need to find the wire going to theother side of the motor. It will need a live and neutral to work. A multimeter will tell you which one it is. Power off if you are tracing wire.

Can you give a better description of the white wire which you say is looped back. What do you mean by “looped back”?

Missing wire should be blue, from selector switch.
Readers and posters should read and understand the FORUM RULES, no/ 8 applies.
However, seeing as it’s Christmas Eve, we might let it pass just this once.

Thanks Penguin45
Sorry, didn’t mean to transgress rules.
Blue makes sense.
Will give it a go first thing in the morning – last thing I need tonight is to blow the ring main!
Thanks Penguin, Flyman and Simon for your help. Merry Christmas to you all.
Cheers all!
