Meery Christmas Folks.
Just had a phone call about an old Bendix WR540W washing machine that blows the mains fuse when the washing cycle is about to heat up the water in the drum.
Thanks to the great service from UK Whitegoods via DHL the element came straightaway but I think this old Bendix does not have a rear inspection plate to get to the immersion heater at the back of the drum?Does this mean that the whole half of the outer casing has to be unbolted to get access for the new heater to be fitted?
What is the standard procedure to get to the element which measures around 35 ohms but I think it is leaking to earth when power is applied as there is a 1/2 meg to earth from the element with wires taken off.Anybody who can throw some light on pulling the rear outer casing off the washer/dryer to make life a little easy for repair.

It’s just a split casing Zanussi with a badge on. 4 screws at the top, one for the blower motor and four at the bottom. Un-hook the valve holder and it’ll just pull away.

Straight forward once I had taken off the side bolts behind the white plastic screw covers. Had to look twice to realise that they hold on the front as well as the back sides of the washing machine.
New element went in no problem. Heating restored and one very black cooked element thrown away. Thanks again UK Whitegoods for a DHL Christmas Eve delivery. Not many people around would have done that.
