4th light flashing is supposed to indicate a heater time out fault.

Both the heating element and the control PCB on these Indesit machines are prone to failure causing this fault.

The first step is to isolate from the mains power and then test the heating element with a meggar or multimeter.

    Alright Jim,

Thanks for the advice yesterday I have tested the heating element for resistance and im getting 0.26 ohms when set at 2000ohms.

The power supply to the heating element was connected using a plug, so I disconnected and tested the terminals is this right?

If you could reply I would be very grateful.

    Thanks

    Iain

    hi Jim,

Thanks for your help before really appreciate it.

just got over some money troubles and settled for doing the dishes myself for a while there.

Just had a wee look at the INDESIT there tested the earth from heating element and getting a closed circuit (hope im explaining this right meter goes from infinity to 000)

i also tested everything else i could find for resistance and earth have found no problems jumping out.
    any clues????

To check the element for insulation (earth faults) you need to test between one of the heater terminals and any metal or earth point on the machine. The outer casing of the element itself is as good as place as any.

The needle ( if it is an analogue meter ) should not deflect at all.
    It should stay at infinity.

The other equally common cause of a no heat fault is the control module.

Two different types used, would need full serial number to identify correct part.

    hi jim,

    thanks for replying.

i have checked for earth faults using a digital meter against the metal casing it does not stay on infinity the meter does the same as if you touch the two leads together is this what should happen.

i got a timer/control board from partmaster and fitted it. when i switched it on the 4th (eco) light came on and stayed lit(no flashing) and would not budge no matter what button i pressed.

i checked the box to see if there was something i had missed but only found the card initialization instructions which i could not follow as it requires me to hold down the P button which is not working on the new timer/control board.

could the new board be faulty?

    thanks

If you test between one of the heater terminals and the heater casing and it does not stay on infinity then the heater has an earth fault. Are you sure you are testing the terminals of the heating element that the wiring plug goes into and not the earth terminal on the heater casing itself?

Board could be faulty, possibly even the wrong board, did you supply a serial number before you ordered it?

TBH it sounds like time to send for the cavalry. 😉

Wrong module, for your serial number it should be a C00143206. 😥

    Hi Jim

I also have the same problem, where would i find the control module i have tested the heater all great. When i spoke to hotpoint they told me this fault was a overflow base pan leaking inline. Any ideas?

    Thanks Jamie

Pcb is in the control panel.

    Power off first.
