ParticipantHelp please,
my dear old Mother-in-Law has an old Hoover washing machine (over 21 years old) that is leaking slightly and causing problems with her flooring. We thought that the time had come to replace it, but the problem is that the under counter cavity is just under 595mm wide. Her old Hoover is just 585mm wide, however, virtually every machine, apart from a very compact one and a top loader that I saw, are between 595 and 600 wide. Can anyone recommend a decent machine that would be approx 590 wide? We may get away with up to 595mm but it would be a VERY snug fit and we may not get it out again……ever!!
Failing any super suggestions, we may have to get a joiner in to do a bit of jiggery pokery.
Here’s hoping that someone may have a suitable suggestion.
Cheers.
Mike.
PS: Price is an issue for this pensioner lady, so we would have to be looking at the cheaper end of the market; just to make things even more difficult!

Maybe your only option Mike, as I don`t know of anything which is less than the usual 595 wide.Don

Thanks Don.
You inspired me to investigate the cavity and neighbouring kitchen units. Lo and behold, the small unit on the right of the cavity had a narrow piece of wood, as a spacer, between it and the wall. I was able to drop the unit, remove the spacer and shift it over by just over a centimetre. It looks great, apart from a small untiled area on the floor, which will be hidden by the new machine. We now have a cavity that is just over 600 wide, and the washing machine world is her oyster.
I know it is a bit off subject, but, she is now considering a Zanussi ZWF12070W1 (£195 with a 2 year warranty from John Lewis), a Bosch WAE24363 (£241 with a 2 year warranty from JL) or a Whirlpool AWO/D5726 (£185 from Comet). I would think the Bosch would be the better machine, followed by the Zanussi, but was concerned by the nylon door catch that was broken on the display model in the shop. Is this catch an issue with Bosch machines or is the anything else that one would recommend she looks at?
Cheers.

Hi
Bosch everytime 😀 it will give great service, I wouldn`t be put off by the catch on the display model they gets loads of abuse especially in the larger stores, we have not had any issues with the door latch on them under normal use.

Just to keep you informed Don:
That’s it done………John Lewis took £241 and will deliver a Bosch WAE24363 to my Mother-in-Law. All in, it seems a fabulous deal and much cheaper than anywhere else. Both Comet and Currys would have taken £362 for exactly the same thing and even on line, the closest I could get was £275, from a company I had never heard of.
Let’s hope it lasts as long as her old Hoover Logic 1200, at almost 22 years.
Happy New Year to you.
Mike.
