ParticipantOur faithful (7yr old) TCD30 Hotpoint Aquarius TD stopped mid-cycle today. It does not respond to the “Push to Start” button and mains electicity source is fine… any ideas on where to start the diagnosis or should I buy a new one?
(Co-incidentally I had to replace the Hotpoint WM53 yesterday… 😥 )
{Edited to correct model number, Thanks Jim}

No CTD30 model exists. The oldest CTD machines will be around four years old.
Do you mean TDC30?
It could be the start switch itself or the relay, both worth repairing.
Could also be the motor capacitor but you would hear a faint buzzing noise if that had failed.

Hi,
Yes it is a TDC30, I asked my son (7) to look up the model number… 😳Also, it turns out that it had tripped a switch on the master board of the house’s electrics. I reset that and retried the Dryer and it lasted about 15 minutes before tripping the switch again.
Hopefully that helps pinpoint the problem? :rolls:
Thanks in advance

The most common cause of circuit breaker activation is condensation on the heater elements, far more common on the later TCD machines. There could also be part of the wiring harness chafing on the drum etc.
I forgot to mention that the door switch can also stop the machine from working, however the start switch, door switch or relay don’t usually cause a delayed short circuit.
A thorough test of all components with a meggar or multimeter is the only way to get to the bottom of the problem TBH, with the mains plug removed of course.

Thanks for the advice… given that it’s 7 years old and has done at least one load a day for it’s entire life, I think it may be time for a replacement. It’s served me well though…
