There’s no spin or drum agitation on any programme, although the mechanism can be heard clicking as it ticks its way round. There is power -the red light comes on. Can’t hear anything else, no motors whirring away. Any suggestions please?
    Thanks,
    B

Most likely to be the carbon brushes in the motor if everything else seems ok.

Motor will need to be removed to check/replace –

Power off and plug out if you attempt this yourself

    Hi,
Have removed the brushes and there’s only about half an inch left, so i’ve ordered replacements, from off this site.
    Many thanks, fingers corssed!

Yes, that was it! Thank you. And thank you to everyone who posted elsewhere advice on how to proceed with this type of repair. In due course i’ll post how i went about the job. Well within the capability of any competent DIYer, -but remember to disconnect from the electric supply!
