Happy New Year to you all from this newbie. Our dishwasher has been working well for the past 2.5 years. Just before 2009, it decided to stop draining water. The after it did that, our sink also followed suit.

I have cleared the sink out by pouring Mr Muscle and sticking a wire down it, and now it’s working fine. The dishwasher is still not draining. So far I have 1) checked filter, no obvious debris, 2) removed dishwasher hose from under the sink and blown into it – can’t blow through, making me wonder if there is a blockage at the other end of the hose.

When I’ve scooped all the water out and run it on rinse, it completes the cycle, although there is still a collection of water at the end of it. Clearing the water again, and running it on a wash cycle, it stops after filling up with water, with the ‘water’ light on.

Any tips on how to solve this problem would be much appreciated!

Firstly, the machine has a non-return valve inside so you won’t be able to blow back up the drain hose.

If you’ve had a blockage in the sink waste then it’s worth double-checking there isn’t a blockage in the spigot that the drain hose attaches to but if that’s clear then the most likely option is a blocked pump.

The only way to clear this is to tip the machine back at 45o, drop off the base cover and remove the pump which is a bayonet fit on the sump (removed by twisting after pressing in it’s lock-tab)

If that’s beyond you then you could look for an engineer near you..click the link below.
