I took delivery of this ISE10 washer today. I can’t find anything in the instruction book about setting the default number of spins (a feature described in the UKWhitegoods website info on the ISE1606W).

Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

    Re: ISE1606W number of rinses

The machine does 3 rinses as standard but can be programmed to carry out up to 5 rinses.

Machine powered off using the main on/off button.

Press and hold both the start and door open button.
The sequence to make this change is:

    Switch main on/off to “on”

After a few seconds the main program indicator (red ring) will flash.

Release start and door lock button.

Now three segments of the program indicator lights (around the start/stop/door) button will be lit.

Press the door lock button to make either three lights lit (three rinse option) or five lights lit (five rinse option). Once selected this becomes the new default value.

    Press start/stop to exit.

Sure, here’s how to do it….

Machine powered off using the main on/off button.

Press and hold both the start and door open button.

Please try not to press any other buttons during this as you are in programming mode when you set this.

    Hi.
Does this also work for the 1406?

Yes Gary, it does as it’s the same core software on it.

    Re: ISE1606W number of rinses

    That’s great. Thanks.

Was one thing I wanted to be able to do but had no button for.
Think the 1606 has an extra rinse button?

Any other tips and tricks 🙂

    Re: ISE1606W number of rinses

The 1606 doesn’t have that button, the seven rinse one. It can be reprogrammed to drop the delay and make that the Super Seven rinse option but that’s a tad more technical. The 1406 can also be reprogrammed to do it if required as well.

The above described option is a default one in that, the machine will always do five as opposed to three rinses on most programs, certainly the cotton and heavy washes, I’ve not tested the delicate and wool ones as yet, i.e., I’ve not sat through all the programs counting the rinses.

The factory default is for three rinses for economy where water use is metered as well as for ecological reasons as you save water.

I have to say however, I do like the option of being able to choose whether I want the economy or ecological benefit of three rinses or the extra cleansing of the five as a default. For people that have sensitive skin or skin problems it’s a superb thing to be able to utilise in my opinion as the extra rinsing will clear a lot of detergent residue if you happen to use a little too much. There’s always some detergent left, the “fresh” smell is a dead givaway although that’s the perfume in it.

I also like that we can give people the choice and instruction on how to easily change the parameters to suit your own needs.

    Re: ISE1606W number of rinses

    Thanks Ken.
Assume the button reprogramming would require a visit? Mind you 7 rinses is a lot of rinsing!

Out of curiosity are these programming options driven by the ratings systems.
I assume that to get an A energy rating you are driven to compromises between wash performance/rinsing and energy/water use.
Seems to me one of the downsides of standardised ratings is if the standard is flawed in some way, for example is rinsing performance included in the standard?

In fact how about an extra letter to denote mean time between failure rates?
Think that would be an excellent idea if I do say so myself 😀

    Re: ISE1606W number of rinses

    Hi Gary,

Yes, for the moment I’d say that reconfiguration to that degree requires an engineer visit unless I can suss an easier way to explain and do it. Problem is that when you enter into the programming mode you can wipe the electronics back to a virgin state and have to reprogram the whole thing if you’re not careful.

Partially yes, you are correct. The EU energy ratings system does have a massive effect on this and people are a tad misled IMO as to what the trade offs are to get to A or A+ ratings, extended wash times being the one we get the most complaints about.

I wrote a piece on the rating system here that may be of interest. You’ll get that I’m not convinced by it. 😉

    Interesting article.
I’ll keep my eye out for your detergent test results.

Why not post a video on Youtube? Saves all the hassle of writing down the regrogramming process.
