ParticipantWe have a hotpoint FF187E fridge freezer which has broken down and is one day outside of its warranty! It was not cooling sufficiently and the two super freeze buttons were flashing.I have seen on various forms that this particular model has a problem with ice forming in the back ( although these are supposed to be ” never have to defrost”) We turned it off for two days so that it could defrost, have taken the back off to make sure there is no ice left, which there wasnt. We then turned it back on and left it overnight, but it is not cooling or freezing at all. We have checked that the fan is working and the compressor is running. Any ideas on what the problem is would be gratefully appreciated, and how to fix it, as we do not want to pay the £150 that both comet and hotpoint are asking! 👿

Hi,
If both the fan and the compressor are running then this would suggest a system fault and is not a quick fix.
Sorry but this one really is a job for an expert.

are the front lights still flashing ? on these machines you need to reset pcb by turning both fridge and freezer knobs at same time to off wait a few secs then turn them both on.

I had the same problem with this model.
Reading up on various forums, apparently there is a design fault where ice builds up and blocks cold air to the fridge section. This causes a temp warning. I did a defrost and the flashing lights went out and the fridge starting to cool again. After a week the fridge warmed up again (although the freezer section is ok). The lights have not come back on but the fridge is useless.
I too would like to know if there is a long term fix as the fridge is less than 18 months old.

You need the defrost heater kit – c00259475 – this has an extended heater to make sure that the block of ice does not form again. – take panel off inside rear of freezer compartment and check if there is a large block of ice hanging from bottom of evaporator – if so then this kit will sort it.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint fridge freezer FF187E defrost heater spare part
Hi,
you mention there is a defrost heater kit – c00259475 – with an extended heater. But i can’t find it on the spare parts site, and I don’t know if it is something easy for me to fit. Could you lket me know if the part number has changed and if it’s a difficult job? Thanks
