Thanks for the post.

Have had a closer look and we do not have a bung that fits in the top of the dishwasher. We just have a 2 inch diameter hole (with a screw thread around it) where I presume the bung must have been at some time. This hole seems to lead into a lining in the dishwasher where water can get to.

Okay, so first I need to get a bung to stop water getting in, but how do I remove any water that presumably is somewhere where it shouldn’t be?

As an aside, what is this hole for if you fit a bung to cover it up?

We have identified a leak on the outlet hose so this must have activated the flood protection system you refer to. Is it simply a case of sorting out the leak (in our case replacing the water outlet hose) and drying the area and the protection system sorts itself out? Or does this flood activation system need resetting somehow?

Thanks, will take a trip to local diy store in the morning to get a new hose and let you know how that goes. Looks like I have to unscrew the base of the dishwasher with a star shaped screwdriver to get to the connection of the hose and then replace it.

Mice? Who knows, but the outlet hose looked like it was kinked where the break is, but there is a chuck of about 1/2 inch taken out of the top of it. Doesn’t look chewed but will have to get the cat to investigate!

For the benefit of everyone else, here’s what I had to do…

Our dishwasher was an integal machine and this was fixed to the front of the kitchen units by 2 screws and once removed the dishwasher is very similar to a standard unit in that it just pulls out from the units.

Switch off the power before going any further!

There is a lot of water in these machines even when they are empty so try to take it outside or expect to use a number of towels to mop up the water.

With our machine I had to replace the drain hose as it was leaking. To do this remove the base of the dishwasher with the dishwasher on it’s side (lots of water comes out!) and you will see the various components. The drain hose is connected to the dishwasher with a hose clip which can be removed easily and then the whole hose can be replaced. I used a universal hose from a local diy shop and jubilee clips to refix and re-connect to the drain.

Within this post you’ll see something about the “flood protection system” but this reset itself automatically once the water had come out of the machine.

Before putting the machine back into the units I connected the water and put the dishwasher through a test wash (which it is now doing). All appears to be working fine as it was stopping with beeps after about 30 seconds previously and it’s been going for 15 mins+ so far.
