ParticipantHI I have a problem at work with these dishwashers and its driving me mad.
Whirlpool ADP4501 8511 504 15810
We have a 40 room barrack block each with a Whirlpool ADP 4501 dishwasher and I have 5 all with similar faults.
Thay all seem to be pulsing on drain and fill.
1) On start up once you press the start button the green light flashes off and on, while this is happening the drain pump is stopping and starting, then it changes to the fill cycle, again green light flashes on and off at the same time the water solenoid switches off and on until the correct water level then it switches to the wash cycle and washes ok.
2) All of these machines have the rinse aid light lit, but when disconnecting the wires from 2 of these machines the machine drains and fill from start as normal without pulsing, but pulses on the final rinse cycle.
3) I ordered a replacement timer/ control unit, the original unit number – 461972704651 sw version 16.
The replacement number – 46197270465252 sw version 17 but when connecting the replacemect unit, all it does when the start button is pressed, the green light just continuously flashes on and off without pausing and nothing else and it will not do anything when you hold the start button to reset.
Have I been sent the wrong control unit or is there still a problem with the dishwasher.
I hope somebody can help because its driving me bonkers.January 12, 2009 at 12:16 am #273721Penguin45

Quite extraordinary that all 5 should demonstrate the same fault. My immediate thought is to get the ring main checked for earth integrity at the very least.
These are digital (ie, computer controlled) machines. The odds on all 5 packing in together must be infitesimally small.
I take it that you mean the entire appliance (s) is pulsing on and off? If the lamp were just pulsing steadily, it would suggest a problem with the temperature control probe – if the entire machine is cutting in and out, it points towards the computer being corrupted. Possible sources include the mains suppressor, heating element and motor start/run capacitor. If the machine is syphoning, you will get a similar effect, but usually after 5 minutes or so.
PCB is p/no 4812 218 38209 – the numbers you have quoted are the factory numbers, which we can’t cross refer.

oThanks penguin45 for your reply. No it’s not the electrical supply, I have the dishwasher back at the workshop.
The dishwashers have been in use for about 3.5 years. I did see that Reginald had the same problem with a ADG6340 back in November 2008, so I checked the mains suppressor.
How do you mean by syphoning ?
I did another check today, can the control pcb reset themselves ?
After pushing the start button I got the usual pulsing and drain pump stopping and starting, then the fill solenoid pulsed{stopping and starting)
this carried on, then water started to come out of the drain pipe the machine paused for a moment, the water solenoid then carried on pulsing then the machine drained out then started to refill without pulsing, then washed, then drained out without pulsing, the dishwasher worked ok until the final rinse, the went back to pulsing on draining.December 18, 2012 at 11:48 pm #273723davefausto

I have the same fault. Did you resolve what the problem was?
