ParticipantI have a two year old AEG Electrolux 16830 washer dryer. It has developed a fault where by once you have selected your wash program and press the the START/PAUSE button the door locks by the program does not start, and the Start/Pause indicator light flashes red. If you then turned the program selector dial to off and reslect the program then press the start pause button it then may start. If not I repeat the process eventually the machine statrs and washes as normal. Any ideas what maybe causing this?

Perhaps there might be some help in my recent topic ‘AEG lavamat L14800 – no start light. Error code E51’ The motor is checked out as part of the initial self test and it would seem that yours is often latching a failure. Resetting seems to sometimes get you a wash when the motor happens to pass, since once running the motor warms and cold failures will clear. I think ‘motor’ since your defect sounds like mine where I didn’t get any obvious errors displayed. I learned to access AEG’s Service Test Procedure.. Perhaps this may work for you? For your model likely that with the Programme Selector in the OFF position, press and hold PREWASH and STAIN (or other two button combinations) and turn the Selector through each position to Delicate Spin. The Display will show any errors logged from each of these stepped tests.
Error codes are fairly consistent across all group products and E51 to E55 are to do with the motor. Best of luck!January 13, 2009 at 2:14 pm #273741sawjsy

Thanks x31Andy, I’ve tried the AEG service test procedure as you decribed does not show any error codes. The problem occurs each time you try to start a wash whether the motor is warm or not.

It seems that my 16830 has the same problem, tried ” Just Answers Web site ” to try to identify the actual fault, the online expert who seemed to be quite knowledgeable about this model, suggested the circuit board was at fault, therefore not a cost effective repair. Still not convinced that is the actual fault. This was several months ago, and the washer is still in use, sometimes without a hiccup, but when it does fault, we find that if you leave it a few minutes it will often work. When this no longer happens I’ll probably scrap it.
