Candy Dishwasher CD622… capacitor blown?
My Candy CD622 Dishwasher fills and drains the water okay but the spray arms stopped working.
On investigation I found that the recirculating motor, Candy type 90.47.30, capacitor, on the side of the motor, had blown melting a large hole in the plastic body.
Some of the numbers and letters on the capacitor are melted through, so I can’t read them. What remains is:

(capacitor size 60mmX25mm diameter white plastic)I have taken the capacitor off my dishwasher after isolating first and marking the the connections. There are no connection markings on the capacitor so I am assuming it doesn’t matter which of the two pairs of the double connections I use to connect the red wire to when refitting a new capacitor, as long as the two blue wires go to the other double connector?
Should I just fit a new capacitor? Or could something have caused the capacitor to blow? I was surprised to find the 13mm A/F nut that fixes the capacitor to the motor was only finger tight.
I can’t find the capacitor I would need on ukwhitegoods?

Must say.. this is a useful website for people like me. I’m in the process of repairing my Diplomat Ceramic Hob as well. I have had some good advise on here and now have a switch on order for that hob.

Candy Dishwasher CD622.. recirculating motor, Candy type 90.47.30, capacitor replaced.
I received a replacement capacitor I ordered from ukwhitegoods.co.uk this morning which was considerably cheaper than an original part, it looks beefier so maybe it will last longer.
This is an easy diy job to do as there is no dismantling involved. I unplugged the machine and as soon as I tilted the machine back to look underneath I could see why the spray arms weren’t rotating. The capacitor on the side of the recirculating motor had a large hole blown through the plastic case. I made a note of the three wire colours and where they connected to on the capacitor before removing it. The capacitor is fixed next to the motor with just one nut (13mm spanner required). It takes longer to pull the dishwasher out and tilt it back to access the underside of the dishwasher than replacing the capacitor. Messing around with electric can be dangerous so be warned capacitors store high electrical charges so you can get a shock off them even when the machine is unplugged.

My Candy CD622 capacitor I replaced in January 2009 has blown again. Could this be a coincidence? We only use the dishwasher once a week.

The bad news is motor itself is drawing to much current and needs replacing. 🙁
The good news is that a new motor comes complete with a capacitor. 😀

Thank you for your reply Martin. I wonder if this is a common problem and what would cause the motor to draw too much current.

Worn bearings and/or pump impellor within the motor unit. Old, tired and struggling to perform takes its strain on us all. Non more so than a Candy Dishwasher…if you catch my drift? 😉

Sorry.. I miss led you.:oops:
I just assumed it would be the same problem I had before when the capacitor blew. A bang.. burnt electrical smell. I turned the dishwasher off and left it overnight. I have only just had time to investigate. I switched the dishwasher on this afternoon and it appears to be working okay now but the fault must still be there. There is no visible signs of burnt winding and the capacitor looks fine. I wonder if the brushes need replacing.

…..but you just told us that “the capacitor I replaced in January 2009 has blown again”…….what the hell am I to figure from that statement in order to answer your post to the best of my experienced knowledge? 😕
Induction motors (in this case) don’t have brushes so that can be ruled out. Is it working now or not is the next question? If it is then my advice is not to fix anything that isn’t broken. 😉

A bang.. burnt electrical smell
😯 you haven’t investigated? the “bang/burnt smell” is usually a short-circuit or track to earth…could be a number of reasons, but dishwashers being damp-prone and carbon-brush-dust being conductive…..has to be near the top of the list of “things to check”
Likely the bang-burning blew away the easy alternative route for the electrickery…..UNTIL NEXT TIME 😥
Leccy is lazy stuff,it will choose the easiest path “home”tou need to check, clean and maybe put some insulating-varnish where the bang happened.
otherwise you risk another bang , or worse…..fire or shock are possibilities.

Just take a deep breath now and tell us again what your problem is? …I’m going off shift now but my colleagues are fully trained in the subject enough to ‘hand over the baton’ as it were…………….GO FOR IT! 8)
