ParticipantI have a Fisher & Paykel ED56-U tumble dryer. When you turn it on from the front panel and select start/pause to start the dry cycle, the motor makes a sound as if it is seized and the dryer does not rotate (tumble). If you then turn the power switch back off, about 4 seconds later I can hear a click sound from the front panel. Is there a capacitor or other component that is perhaps faulty.
Is there a way of putting the machine into diagnostic modeJanuary 21, 2009 at 9:01 pm #274722bigsmokepiker

Id Check motor capacitor First Sits next to motor
Access thru back panel
Not unusual for motor bushes to seize (Have to buy motor complete)
Motor should turn freely by handJanuary 21, 2009 at 9:18 pm #274723lisaellamaurice

It was very difficult to rotate the motor by hand, so I turned it with the fan rotor which is much larger in diameter. The motor freed up and then turned by hand. I then ran the motor with the drum belt disconnected and it ran fine. Stopped the motor. Then went to run again and it seized again. I freed it by hand and repeated with same results. Could this be the capacitor, failing to start the motor or do you think the motor is on its way out

Cgeck capacitor to be sure
But if the motor itself is seizing UP (hard to turn with belt OFF)thats your problem
if its stalling with belt on Id check your rear drum bearing
Is It noisy ?January 21, 2009 at 9:33 pm #274725lisaellamaurice

It is not noisy. It only becomes difficult to turn after you apply power and it does not, rotate. Once you free by hand again, it rotates freely.
