Indesit D41 slimline dishwasher. Never given any problems in 4 years of daily use.

Last night I put it on cycle 2 (normal) and left it. After a few minutes noticed water pouring out round the door seal. It had backed up somehow.

Switched it off, then back on (at mains) and reset. Set it to prog 1 (soak) and it drained OK. Looked in strainer -bits of food which I cleaned out, seemed OK.

Reset it and put it back on prog 2. Got the reset beep but not the usual series of beeps I get with prog 2. Instead got a single beep and green ‘rinse’ light came on, stayed solid for a few secs, then began flashing. I could hear the motor turning but nothing was happening inside.

Tried unplugging and resetting and different progs but all the same.

Counting from the left, what number was the light that was flashing?

These machines a prone to over soaping and flooding into the base. This is often caused by using 3 in 1, 4 in 1 or 5 in 1 tablets and putting rinse aid in as well.

If you drag the machine out, unplug then place a few towels on the floor. Tilt the machine to one side and you may see some water running out.

If so then retry the machine. If it works OK then apart from altering your detergent it should be fine. If it fails soon after then you may have an internal leak.

It was #1 that was flashing. Maybe the leak last night got into the base. I’ll check what you say tonight. Cheers.

PS we use 4 in 1 tabs but no rinse aid.

Yep, light 1 flashing is a flooded base. For best results we generally advise using separate detergent, rinse aid and salt if required. Combination tablets are known to cause the occasional flood, particularly on these machines.

Hi Jim. Did as you said. Got about 2 pints of water out of it, and now it works fine. Cheers!
