ParticipantI have had this machine for approx 4 years with no problems. Yesterday whilst drying a loud banging noise started, this happens where the drum indents. I have taken off the top the belt is in place I have turned it by hand and it and it seems that the drum is loose and is hitting a metal strip on the bottom at each indent as tho the drum isnt supported enough. I thought maybe the bearings had gone (I have no idea what this would sound like) but I am wondering if maybe the belt has just stretched causing it to catch the bottom, however there is “movement” on the drum. Could anyone advise?? I cant get anyone to look at it as I brought it with me to Australia and they dont deal with hotpoint here and I dont want to shell out for a new one if its just the belt as I can buy on-online. Thanks in advance hope this makes sense cos Im female and tend to waffle a bit lol.

Rear drum shaft cut down the rear panel? so drum is lower at back? Unplug power if going in. A shaft kit is available.

On the back of the machine is a small box-like cover, retained by two screws. Remove it. If the drum is dropping, you will easily see what is actually happening. There is a repair kit available which comprises the shaft on the back of the drum, a new rear bearing and sundry other bits and bobs. It’s basically a screwdriver job, but rather fiddly to do.
Repair kit is HERE, if you think you can do it; otherwise your local repairer will charge for an hour, possibly an hour and a halfs work. Discuss the chargeable rate when you make the call to avoid any surprises.

Thanks Penguin45,
I appreciate the link it seems I cannot purchase from yourselves as google checkout does not allow shipping to Australia?? Unless there is a way around this, if not I will try and source somewhere that will. I will get the kit and may be able to convince an engineer that its just a tumble dryer and it wont bite lol.
Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.

Have a word direct by email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and explain the problem. They are nothing if not resourceful…… 😀
