ParticipantHi,
All of a sudden the dryer has stopped working on high heat, I took of the back and checked the thermostats and it had 3 two white ones and one black in the middle. The two white ones made a connection when checked with the multimeter, the middle one had no connection.
The heating element has 3 bars, when the dryer is on with high heat only 2 bars heat up, should all 3 be burning up?
No lights are flashing at the front it runs as normal but it just doesn’t get really hot, it’s only warm, If the thermisters were broken would it heat up at all??
Thanks

Do NOT run the dryer without the back cover…… The safety thermostat will trip in no time and you are exposed to a major electrical hazard.
The two white ones are a cycling thermostat and a safety cut-out. The third one is an ntc thermistor. If you meter it in the kOhm range when split from the circuit, you should get a reading. This should fall with temperature.
You need to meter the element itself – remove the r/h side panel to reveal the connector to the elemet and measure from there, again with the circuit split.

Hi, thank’s for the reply, that was well technical for me, it went over my head, if it’s not too much of a probloem could you explain that again ie for dummies like me, I got the bit take the right hand side cover off, then set the multimeter to kohm setting then where do I put the prong’s do I have the machine on? while I am doing this.. what am I looking for to happen.
Thanks

A heater is a resistance device. Yours has two separate heater circuits, to give high and low heat. High heat is achieved by turning on the second element. By disconnecting the element from the rest of the circuits, you will be able to perform a resistance test through the heaters alone. 50-60 ohms on each circuit would be typical, blue is the neutral and is usually common to both circuits.
If you’re not sure how to proceed, please use the repairs@ link on the left to find a UKW engineer in your area.
