ParticipantWasher stopped mid cycle and door locked light is flashing. Is it possible to test the door switch when it is off the washer. I have tried a continuity test on the switch terminal spades but when I operate the slider none of the spades have a circuit between them. Should they? or is there another way to test the switch before ordering a new one?
Could you also explain how the switch works inside, am I right in thinking it uses heat to keep the door locked?
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Chris

You got the model number for this?
htp aqua models when the door lock pops usually blow the timer or board depending on which model it isJanuary 25, 2009 at 9:37 pm #275248Sharvale

WMA44, how do i test the switch before ordering one? Can I do any other tests to prove the faults you say may have been caused also.
Thanks for replying

Participantok heres the deal
very commonly, the pcb blows on these
sometimes, the lock does it.. other time the motor brushes can cause this, because theyre both on the same plug
best bet is to visibly inspect the pcb, if it is blown, follow the wires back to the faulty component and test
experience would suggest that since it stopped during a wash, the brushes will indeed be chief suspect
hope this helps?
oh, and take the plug out

Behind the console panel.!
Power off and plug out.
Top off (machine)
Remove dispenser drawer and you will see 3 screws, remove these and the console is now loose.
Make a note of where all wiring goes before you unplug anything.
Release the pcb from the plastic clips and if helo is right(which i am sure he is)you will see one of the trace circuits on the board has blown.January 27, 2009 at 11:38 am #275252Sharvale

Thanks for that i will give it a go.
If it is the brushes that are at fault is it just a case of changing them as I have done that in the past and know how to do it.

I have got the pcb off now and the board has blown on the back of X1 connector. The wire nearest to the burnt off track goes to the door switch so I guess it was the switch and not the brushes on this occasion am I right?
Is it worth repairing the track or does it normally blow the components on the board?
Thanks again for everyones help so far
