ParticipantHi guys,
Went to look at a Whirlpool AWG349/3 this morning, which seemed to have an interesting fault. When a program was selected the timer makes a brief noise (accompanied by a slight movement) before the machine appears to do nothing else. This happens regardless of the door being open or closed.
I’ve checked the PCB but can’t seem to find any sign of burn outs, I didn’t check the brushes as I was of the belief that these would only be the problem if the door to the machine was closed when the program is selected. Would I be wrong in making this assumption or could there be something else that I have overlooked.
While there I checked the pump for blockages and didn’t find any.
Any clues would be appreciated,
Mark

Chris,
Thanks for the info it was gtreat, however I’m still no closer to sorting the problem. I worked through the fault finding without much luck, I thought everything pointed to the main card.
Having called QER today they inform me that this is not a board they can test thoroughly. He suggested either the interlock or the motor might be at fault.
I’m not sure how you guys see it, I’ve been to the property twice now and don’t want to turn up again without having a good chance of fixing it. Any other pointers would be really appreciated. In case it makes a difference I recall that even with the board out the program dial on the board did the same thing. Not sure if this assists at all.
Yours

These machines ‘self-check’ it’s electronics before commencing any programme. Hence the brief noises heard on start up even with the door open. Many components within can cause these symptoms and the most likely of which is the proverbial main motor. (the very thing you’ve not checked. 🙁 )
Most likely suspects : motor brushes, motor plug connectors and wiring harness adjacent motor all need careful inspection. Failing that, heaters and inlet valve -maybe?
HTH? 😀

ParticipantMartin,
You’re a star. I’ll get on it and check the motor.
Thanks for all your help today,
