ParticipantHi everyone… first post here…
I have a Indesit WIXL123… it’s 1 year and 1 month old (what a surprise)… and it has died on me…
All the lights are lit, but the door won’t lock… we called an engineer in to look at and he tried a new door lock but that didn’t make any difference…
He didn’t really look at the electronics but just said… “I think it is the main circuit card and they cost about £150 so you may as well get a new machine”….. he then went on to say how he could supply a new machine and take our Indesit away…
I’ve not taken him up on that offer yet because I thought I’d see if there was anything else I could try first… although not working the washing machine is like new and has always washed clothing well.
It appears to start a washing cycle but the door locked light will not come on and so the door wont lock and the cycle doesn’t begin.
Any idea’s please?

it could be the motor brushes or the pcb i would try and get an engineer off of repairs@ to have a look at it before letting someone sell you a machine and “take your old one away”.
plug out if you are checking yourself.

Thanks for the reply… not sure who you mean though… repairs@?
If it was the brushes would you expect the door to still lock?
If it is the PCB do you know roughly how much these cost?
Thanks

Is the door locking and the light not coming on?or the door not locking at all.
If it is the former it will be something to do with the motor circuit, broken wire more likely than brushes at this age.
If it doesn.t lock at all then could be pcb,you could always get an idea off one of the mods regarding price or………..
I will whisper this bit
Get indesit out to it for a hundred quid all in.January 28, 2009 at 9:38 pm #275547iadom

Get indesit out to it for a hundred quid all in.If it is the PCB then the Indesit Company is your best option. You will not get a new PCB fitted by an independent engineer for less than that, even before labour charges and you will not be able to buy a new machine for £100.00.

The door won’t lock it seems, it closes… the cycle appears to begin but wont actually start as the door is unlocked.
If we get Indesit out is it a flat rate £100 including parts? also is the work guaranteed for a period (I would not be happy to have to pay the same again in a few months)
I have looked at a new Washing Machine tonight (on the net) – Whirlpool AWO/D 6927 (£280) but it seems such a waste of a fairly new machine and otherwise perfectly good Indesit machine.
If I do get a new machine what should I do with the old one…. dump it down the tip or are the parts any good?
Thanks

That is what is known in the trade as an oxymoron, good and Indesit do not belong in the same sentence. 😉
The Indesit Company have maximum repair charges which include all parts.
I would imagine that the parts fitted would carry some sort of warranty but it would be impossible to cover for any other parts which might fail in the future.
Give them a ring and they will advise you of the details. They will no doubt try and get another £60 out of you to cover for all breakdowns for 12 months as well.

Hahaha yes good point on the perfectly good Indesit…
I don’t think we will bother with Indesit now…. my mother is going to give me her older (but still working) Indesit… fingers crossed it lasts more than a week!
