ParticipantHelp,
Machine faults to E6 not draining quickly enough. about 4-5 Meg on insulation. On looking inside, suppresor craked and burnt. Repalced with genuine Smeg one. Insulation now good.
Re-set pcb, same fault. no sign of any blockage, checked pipes still no joy. Put it to drain in to the sink, added water into sump manually, drains out. Re-set again – still no joy.
Got it back in my workshop (utility room), stripped all pipework I could see – no blockage, air break looks in mint condition and no sign of blockage. Re-set pcb, drains water but still times out on draining. When you open the door you get the sound of gurgling….
PCB dead or corrup ??- I’m not sure as it functions fine, re-sets, selects any programme you want…
I’m open to suggestions… 😕 😕 😕

Corruption issues rife – hook up an inlet valve on the dispenser leads and see what happens.

Hi Chris,
I did consider that and it was going to be my next step this afternoon but was pressed for time. What initially put me off was the “normal” service from the PCB. I’ve read about the solonoid problem before but never come accross it myself…. there’s hardly any Smeg appliances around here…..
I just know you’re going to be correct…… pretty reasonable quality applaince and determined to save it if I can. The customer is a good aquantance as well so doubly important…..
I’ll let you know…
tks
Steve

I have managed to prove a faulty dispenser solenoid on a couple of occasions by hooking up my Fluke to the spades then flexing them with pliers only to see the continuity come and go with the flexing 😉

top idea, i’ll try your idea and Chris’s – I’d give it a go tonight but far too comfortable on the couch and the Fosters is nice and cold!! 😀 😀 😀
will post results

I’d suggest a very close inspection of the drain pump. Impellor could be loose. I’ve even seen a shaft that was loose inside the rotor magnet!

Still no joy 🙁 🙁
Dispenser solonoid appears to be fine, tried attaching a couple of different valves that I know are good – re-setting pcb between each attempt.

Mike.I will have another look at the pump but I removed it yesterday to ensure there were no blockages. I then attempted to get it to work with absolutely no water in the sump of any pipework. thanks..
I’ve tested the p/s, diaphragm works fine and switch is electricaly good opening/closing when it should.
I will try all the edge connectors to the pcb and check wiring more closely tomorrow morning as I’ve got some spare time.
Thanks for the suggestions.Steve

If the integrity of the pressure switch is ok then it’s looking more and more like the pcb has let go, possibly caused by the suppressor failure 😕

Would suggest running pump on flying lead and seeing how much/little force is required on end of impellor to slow or stop it. Don’t burn your finger though like I did 😥

Sorted 😀 😀 😀 😀
A couple of broken wires at the base of the door. All wrapped in the protective tape…what a horrible mess… so two broken wires, had to repair 4 others……
The damaged suppressor threw me off track a bit. I should have gone back to basic fault finding…
We live and learn. I think I know this particular model inside out now…
Thanks to all for the help….
