    Bosch intergrated dishwasher,SGV56A03GB/17.
    Checked out this d/w for strange noise and top spray arm not rotating.
    On first inspection quite a loud whiring sound could be heard coming from the wash pump and top spray arm was not turning so asumed maybe something stuck in pump. Water diverter seemed to be working.
    So, stripped down machine and discovered that there was no obstruction in the pump and although it was working fine the front bearing was causing the noise. Turned out that the diverter was faulty.
    Now, do i advise to replace the heater box and the motor which will probably write off the machine,or just the heater box which will cure the fault but how long the motor will go on for is anyones guess, or could the bearing possibly be replaced without too much hassle to myself in first obtaining one of the right size and secondly getting the old one out.

    Sorry! But when i started the post i was seeking help on what to advise the customer which was kind of “general” but got carried away with the “technical”

    At a guess the bearing will be a solid bronze one which you will find impossible to source. Give the customer all the info they are capable of understanding and let them make the decision, which is really as much about their finances and beliefs as it is an engineering one. Even if it means they end up buying new they’ll thank you for giving them good advice.

    Nope, it’s a small ball bearing on each end of the shaft, so they can be got from transmission stockists. I’ve done it a few times (don’t remember size – sorry 😳 ) for front bearing being ruined by leakage. In that case you will need the impellor/seal kit as well (£30 odd). If you are going to swap the bearing, make a witness mark on the inboard end of the shaft so as you know where to drive the new one back to – there is no step to stop the bearing.
