ParticipantCan anyone help please? Our Fridge freezer has died, the motor is still warm and making a quiet buzz. It is Hotpoint Ultima model FFA 979, S/N 603160521.
We first found ice in the base of the freezer compartment for a few weeks – thought that odd as it is supposed to be frost-free. Then the fridge and freezer just stopped working. It is under 3 years old. It could be just something small so if anyone could suggest how we diagnose, I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you

Participanti think itd be defroeting it with both doors open for 48hrs first
the ice in the freezer would suggest ice build up
which will stop the fan, which stops the fridge from working
worth a try

ParticipantThanks for that helo 75, I took the plastic cover off the rear inside of the freezer compartment and found the drain hole was clogged. I realise this may have caused the motor to overheat?? and cleared it. It defrosted, both doors open (it was already pretty defrosted) and there is no frosting. I have switched back on and the temperature is reducing but the fan is not yet working. I have kept the cover off so I can see what is going on. The temp is currently 1 degree so something is happening. I am really obliged to you for replying. Am off to bed now and will report in the morning. night night

The rear plastic cover from the inside of the freezer has some sponge which is protected by foil. The foil is torn and the sponge is soaked. I think, because ice built up behind it, it caused the foil to become damaged, torn.
The temp this morning is -4 degrees so something is working. The fan is not going round. Could it possibly only need a new fan and replacement foil or do you think some other damage has been done by the blocked drain?
I appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me please.
Thanks

The fan will not run until it reaches approx-18 C
It is possible to buy a new rear panel which has all the foil and foam on it.
I would put the cover back in place and see what temperature you are getting in 24 hours before you spend anything though.February 3, 2009 at 9:39 pm #276075hesel

Thanks for your advice kiddo66. I put the cover back on and am continuing to monitor the temperature. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
