ParticipantOur 7-year old Bosch WFO2464GB has developed a fault where it will spin for 3 or 4 minutes then shut down.
Having read through these forums I’ve already replaced the carbon brushes, which were badly worn. I’ve also cleaned a large amount of grey solid or semi-solid soap sludge from the pump filter, the big sump hose and the other drain pipes.
Unfortunately the problem hasn’t gone away and its still cutting out. It makes a bit of a squeaking noise when its spinning but apart from that I cant see any obvious fault.
Is there anything else I could check before we give up and buy a new one ?

How brave are you? I see Bosch washers every day and fit plenty of motor brushes. I find that there is about a 1:5, maybe 6 that the motor will not accept new brushes – classic scenario is that it starts to ramp into spin and then aborts.
The old school approach (Hello, Martin!) is to remove and dismantle the motor. Clean out all traces of carbon dust – use solvent if neccessary; give the commutator a light polish, even use a fine file to “profile” the tips of the carbon brush to fit the commutator and it *may* be OK.
Otherwise, you will need a motor. Debatable as to whether or not that’s a cost effective repair – part number is 144901, best part of £200 last time I looked.
Stay safe, power off if you intend to do this yourself.

On the basis that I’ve got nothing to lose, I think I can afford to be brave 🙂
We put a load into it this morning and the motor is noticeably louder than before so I’m hoping it may be the brushes bedding in.
If it still doesn’t spin properly I’ll do as you suggest and strip the motor down and give it a thorough clean. If that doesn’t fix it then I think we’ll give it up and get a new one.

I arrived home tonight to find that that my wife had successfully run a couple of loads through without any problems, the spin cycle is fine, and that the squeaking noise has stopped 😀
So, I’m guessing that the new brushes have bedded in and am hoping that normal service has been resumed.
Thanks for your help earlier 🙂
