ParticipantHi Guys. Great Website, has helped me with half my problem.
Basically my SMEG oven has stopped heating up but all other functions still work OK. From reading through some of the posts on this forum, I think that the thermostat needs to be replaced.
My question though is how do i get into where the Thermostat is to replace it. I have removed all the inside panels after isolating the oven from the electricity and can see the Fan and heating element but not sure where the thermostat is located. Do i need to get into it from the back of the oven.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
THanks

Many Thanks for your reply. One more question though….
If it is the element rather than the thermostat, would that have caused the RCD in the main fuse box to trip as this is what happened and from reading other posts on here pointed me in the direction of the thermostat.
Not questioning your judgement at all, just want to make sure you had all the information available as i forgot to mention that in my first post.
Thanks

Hi
Yes when the fan element blows or shorts to earth it can cause the rcd to trip very much like a light bulb does when they go pop.
If the fan, oven light and red indicator light come on when you select the fan position it would suggest that the selector/thermostat is ok. Normally the red neon indicating when the oven is up to temp is on the output side of the element which would prove there is power coming out of thermostat.
Have you had a look at the element to see if it has physicaly blown??
Remember to power off before removing panel

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll check the element tonight when I get in to see if it looks damaged. The red Neon light does still come on when I turn the oven setting on, so that does support your response as well.
Looks like i’ll be placing an order for the part that Penguin45 highlighted in his post.
Thanks

Just wanted to post a quick ‘Thankyou’ to Penguin45 and Geoff1 for their help and avice.
Ordered the part that Penguin45 suggested from UK White Goods, which arrived today, fitted it in 10 mins and the wife now has a fully functioning oven again.
